42.5 attitudes, perspectives, and prevalence of molecular genetic testing in asd: big lessons from the smallest state

ASDs are among the mental health conditions with the highest genetic burden, with clinically identifiable pathogenic genetic changes explaining up to 40 percent of cases. This has led to the recommendation of genetic testing, specifically chromosomal microarray and Fragile X testing, as a key element in the evaluation of people with ASD. However, there is a large practice gap between professional recommendations and clinical practice, with only a minority of patients being tested. Understanding the reasons behind this dissonance is a crucial need; if it is not met, the implementation of genetic testing at a large scale may not be achieved.
