1.38 attachment and epigenetics: a scoping review of recent research and current knowledge

Infant attachment to the caregiver is a strong and enduring bond with unique characteristics such as proximity-seeking behavior. Secure attachment has been found to be associated with improved resiliency. Epigenetic research has pointed to the fact that the interaction between genetics and environmental factors may play a role in the formation of the attachment representations and, thus, in making some individuals more vulnerable to adversity than others. The aim of this presentation was to present a broad perspective on the current state of knowledge in a relatively new and complex field of the “attachment and epigenetic processes.”
