3.35 pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome and autoimmune family history

Pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome (PANS) and pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections (PANDAS) are autoimmune conditions characterized by an abrupt onset of OCD or a significantly restricted food intake. Research shows some evidence that mental health disorders are associated with autoimmune diseases and disturbances. It is also known that heritability plays a role in some autoimmune conditions, which tend to co-aggregate in families.
