P.260Lean muscle mass changes in patients with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies

Patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) have progressive loss of motor function through their first and second decades of life. In contrast, similar-aged patients with Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) have normal motor function. We aimed to study the age-related lean muscle mass changes in patients with DMD, BMD and healthy controls. We conducted a retrospective study of dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) lean body mass (LBM) and appendicular lean mass (ALM) and their height-adjusted indices (LBMI and ALMI) of 531 patients with DMD, 46 patients with BMD and normal motor function, and 693 healthy male controls (numbers of scans: DMD - 3670; BMD - 137; healthy controls - 3702).
