Donor thyroid hormonal (TH) resuscitation therapy is a widely used practice. Recently, concerns have been raised suggesting a possible “withdrawal effect” and early graft failure risk after heart transplant in recipients not receiving TH supplementation. Whether this could counteract the possible favorable effects of TH donor therapy is not known.

Objective: Gabapentin is used to treat vasomotor symptoms (VMS) in postmenopausal women with contraindications to hormonal therapy or who prefer alternatives. We investigated the efficacy and tolerability of gabapentin for treating menopausal hot flushes via a meta-analysis. Methods: We searched the PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL databases for English-language articles published until June, 2018. The following search terms were used: “menopause,” “hot flushes,” “vasomotor symptoms,” “gabapentin,” and “non-hormonal therapy.” Primary outcomes were frequen...

AbstractDeep invasive gastrointestinal endometriosis (DIGIE) is a frequent and severe presentation of endometriosis. Although most cases invade the rectosigmoid colon, DIGIE can involve any portion of the gastrointestinal tract from the stomach to the rectum, and is commonly multifocal and multicentric. Although histopathologic confirmation with surgery remains the gold standard for diagnosis, ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are the key non-invasive imaging modalities for initial assessment. US may be preferred as a screening study because of its easy availability and low-cost. Pelvic MRI and magnetic ...

r A Abstract For decades, hormonal therapy was considered an integral part of the treatment regimen for undescended testes, particularly in Europe. However, the available data are controversial. According to many studies and a large meta-analysis, testicular descent can only be achieved in approximately 20 % of cases, whereas a few small studies report better results. Improvement of fertility is also considered significant in some studies, while others even report detrimental effects. Meanwhile, the recommendations for the use of hormonal therapy have been removed from most international guidelines. In Germany, ...

ns Verhaegh : Estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer patients are eligible for hormonal treatment, but only around half respond. A test with higher specificity for prediction of endocrine therapy response is needed to avoid hormonal overtreatment and to enable selection of alternative treatments. A novel testing method was reported before that enables measurement of functional signal transduction pathway activity in individual cancer tissue samples, using mRNA levels of target genes of the respective pathway-specific transcription factor. Using this method, 130 primary breast cancer samples were analyzed fro...

Conclusions and Relevance: These results suggest that pre-SRT PSA level may be a prognostic biomarker for outcomes of antiandrogen treatment with SRT. In patients receiving late SRT (PSA>0.6 ng/mL, hormone therapy was associated with improved outcomes. In men receiving early SRT (PSA ≤0.6 ng/mL), long-term antiandrogen treatment was not associated with improved OS. Future randomized clinical trials are needed to determine hormonal therapy benefit in this population. Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00002874.
