Achieving Thinned Blood: One Size Fits All?

Heparin is used universally as a peri-procedural prophylactic antithrombotic during peripheral arterial interventions. The primary aim is to prevent arterial thrombo-embolic complications. Heparin is also used as a flushing solution ( “Hepsal”) on the side ports of sheaths and in the preparation of catheters to reduce thrombus formation.
