The role of paternal health in fertility outcomes has become increasingly clear during the past decade. Environmental exposures, such as tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana, can impair semen parameters. In addition to well-established conditions, such as varicocele and hypogonadism, paternal comorbidity in the form of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension have now been shown to have significant impact on semen parameters. Beyond the semen analysis itself, sperm quality as measured by deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) fragmentation has been implicated in many clinical pathologies including recurrent pregnancy loss and failure of in &nb...

Authors: Nourollahpour Shiadeh M, Cassinerio E, Modarres M, Zareiyan A, Hamzehgardeshi Z, Behboodi Moghadam Z Abstract β-thalassaemia major (BTM) has a high prevalence worldwide and is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. The aim of this review is to provide an illustrative overview of the reproductive health and pregnancy related issues in females with β-thalassaemia. A literature search was performed in four international databases (1980-2018) to identify the potentially relevant articles. Common reproductive health disorders are hypo-gonadotrophic hypogonadism, infertility, delayed or ...

ConclusionsEmerging new evidence suggests that metabolic disorders may aggravate LOH effects on the fertility potential of males in reproductive age, by enhancing T deficiency. These results clearly show that metabolic disorders, such as obesity and diabetes, have a greater impact on causing hypogonadotropic hypogonadism than tissue senescence. Further, TRT and off ‐label alternatives capable of restoring T levels appear as suitable to improve LOH, while also counteracting comorbidities related with metabolic diseases.

Male hypogonadism, the clinical syndrome with variable symptoms associated with gonadal dysfunction, can affect men of all ages. In older males, physiologic changes of the aging testis, account for the majority of decreased testosterone levels in this population. For younger males and adolescents, the etiology of hypogonadism is commonly due to congenital or acquired conditions that disrupt the testis production of testosterone or signaling from the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Diagnosis of hypogonadism in younger males can be a challenge, as symptoms such as decreased libido or erectile dysfunction, common in the ...

AbstractBackgroundFunctional hypogonadism is a common disorder among patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and could be managed by first treating the underlying causes.ObjectiveThe present study was undertaken to investigate the contribution of body weight and glycemic control to the reversibility of hypogonadism to eugonadism in a real ‐life setting.Materials and methodsAdult obese male patients with uncontrolled T2DM, complaining of mild to moderate erectile dysfunction (ED) and suspected of functional hypogonadism evaluated at our institution from 2015 to 2017 were retrospectively included. The gon...

ConclusionsPatients with CeD have high percentages of not only clinical endocrinopathy including pituitary-gonadal axis dysfunction but also subclinical endocrinopathy. Whether commencement of gluten-free diet will lead to reversal of subclinical endocrinopathies requires further follow up studies.

CONCLUSIONS: There was a high prevalence of LSTT, LSFT and androgen deficiency symptoms in this study. Serum TT and FT were lower in men with T2DM than in control subjects. Risk factors associated with LSFT or LSTT included higher BMI and WC and older age. The AMS score was a poor predictor of low testosterone. More research is required locally before any screening policy can be recommended. PMID: 31865960 [PubMed - in process]
