III–3 Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS) for the Treatment of Massive Osteonecrosis Following Carbon Ion Radiotherapy for Malignant Bone Tumor

Discussion: Until now, positive effect of LIPUS have been reported on osteonecrosis of knee, hip joint and jaw bone. However, there have been, to our knowledge, no report on applying LIPUS for these difficult conditions. LIPUS therapy seems beneficial for pain relief and bone regeneration for massive osteonecrosis after CIR. Accepted June 13, 2019 Copyright © 2019 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. All rights reserved.

CONCLUSIONS: Local application of sevoflurane in the wound bed appears to exhibit analgesic, antimicrobial, and positive healing effects. It could be a promising alternative treatment to be included as a therapeutic option for wound care. PMID: 31730517 [PubMed - in process]

ConclusionComputed tomography examinations are a more reliable method for differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules than ultrasound examinations followed by fine needle aspiration biopsy. ObjetivoComparar exames tom...

In this study we aimed at identifying kinase inhibitors that inhibit the survival of chondrosarcoma cells and thereby serve as new potential therapeutic strategies to treat chondrosarcoma patients. An siRNA screen targeting 779 different kinases was conducted in JJ012 chondrosarcoma cells in parallel with a compound screen consisting of 273 kinase inhibitors in JJ012, SW1353 and CH2879 chondrosarcoma cell lines. AURKA, CHK1 and PLK1 were identified as most promising targets and validated further in a more comprehensive panel of chondrosarcoma cell lines. Dose response curves were performed using tyrosine kinase inhibitors: ...

AbstractIntroductionBecause spermatocytic tumors of the testis are rare, only limited evidence exists regarding the malignant potential and the optimal management of localized and metastatic disease.Materials and methodsWe performed a systematic review through MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Web of Science to identify reports including patients with testicular spermatocytic tumors.ResultsFrom originally 7863 studies, we extracted data of 146 patients of which 99% were treated with radical orchiectomy. Metastases in patients with initially localised disease were diagnosed in 7% of patien...

CONCLUSIONS: This outbreak highlighted communication failures, from hunters to consumers. Awareness should be raised on the relation between trichinellosis and game meat. Trichinella species detection is important for adequate outbreak recording and could contribute to better understanding the clinical and serological signs of T. britovi infection. We present a case-based review of abdominal postoperative complications, organized by organ system affected, including wound/superficial, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and vascular complications. Both general complications and specific considerations for certain types of operations are described, as well as potential pitfalls that can be confused with complications. Representative cases are shown using all relevant imaging modalities, including CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, MRI, and nuclear medicine. Management options are also described, highlighting those that require radiologist input or int...

Abstract Abdominal pain is a common cause for emergency department visits in the United States, and biliary tract disease is the fifth most common cause of hospital admission. Common causes of acute hepatobiliary include gallstones and its associated complications and multiple other hepatobiliary etiologies, including infectious, inflammatory, vascular, and neoplastic causes. Postoperative complications of the biliary tract can result in an acute abdomen. Imaging of the hepatobiliary tree is integral in the diagnostic evaluation of acute hepatobiliary dysfunction, and imaging of the biliary tree requires a multimo...

Abstract There is a wide variety of causes of diffuse lung disease in the intensive care unit patient, of which adult respiratory distress syndrome is the commonest clinical consideration. Plain radiography, computed tomography, and ultrasound can be used synergistically to evaluate patients with diffuse lung disease and respiratory impairment. Imaging is not limited to characterization of the cause of diffuse lung disease but also aids in monitoring its evolution and in ventilator setting management. PMID: 31731896 [PubMed - in process]
