Combined thermo-chemotherapy of cancer using 1  MHz ultrasound waves and a cisplatin-loaded sonosensitizing nanoplatform: an in vivo study

ConclusionsThe data obtained in this study confirmed a potent anti-tumor efficacy caused by the ACA nanoplatform and ultrasound combination. It may provide a beneficial cancer therapy strategy in which the thermal and mechanical effects of ultrasound can intensify the therapeutic ratio of conventional chemotherapy methods.

Our data indicated that 5 ‐FU was the key drug for treatment and OHP alone had the additional effect in combination with 5‐FU. AbstractBasic and clinical studies on small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) are limited due to the rare nature of this cancer. We established a patient ‐derived xenograft (PDX) model from the tumor tissue of an advanced SBA patient with liver and peritoneal metastasis, and a cell line from the PDX. In the PDX model, compared to the control group, 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU) treatment resulted in statistically significant tumor growth inhibition (TG I), while oxaliplatin (OHP) and irinotecan had no s...

Authors: Chaleshi V, Irani S, Alebouyeh M, Mirfakhraie R, Aghdaei HA Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common intestinal cancer with a high mortality rate. Early detection of this type of cancer is fundamental to the prevention of the disease, which results in improved survival rates. In the human colon tissue, transition from normal epithelium to adenoma is considered to be caused by unknown molecular incidents occurring over 5-10 years. The detection of CRC has proved problematic when in the early stages of disease. In addition, identifying suitable biomarkers for the detection of CRC progress in patients rem...

We describe herein the detection of an adenocarcinoma of the cecum on PET/CT with 18F-FDG in a patient with an active endogenous C. septicum endophthalmitis of the right eye. FDG PET/CT should be considered for all patients with endogenous endophthalmitis to exclude an occult malignancy, especially colorectal cancer.

Case Summary: A 28-year-old nulliparous woman presented with rectal bleeding. Colonoscopy revealed a 4-cm malignant-appearing mass in the proximal rectum, and biopsies confirmed invasive adenocarcinoma of the rectum. Computed tomography scan showed no evidence of metastatic disease. Staging MRI found transmural extension with minimal stranding in the adjacent fat, as well as no evidence of pathological pelvic adenopathy, consistent with a T3N0 lesion. The proposed treatment plan involved neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy before primary surgical resection. The patient desired fertility preservation and was re...

CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of anastomotic leak after restorative resection for rectal cancer did not impact long-term oncological outcomes in our cohort of patients. See Video Abstract at http://links.lww.com/DCR/B187.

Tidsskr Nor Laegeforen. 2020 May 05;140(7): Authors: Mala T, Førland DT, Vetti HH, Skagemo CU, Johannessen HO, Johnson E Abstract Hereditary ventricular polyposis in the form of gastric adenocarcinoma and proximal polyposis of the stomach (GAPPS) is a rare condition characterised by a typical distribution of polyps in the stomach and risk of gastric cancer at a young age. Prophylactic gastrectomy may be indicated. The condition is not thought to be associated with increased risk of colon can...

AbstractA series of halogenated derivatives of natural flavonoids: baicalein and chrysin were designed and investigated as possible ligands for the catalytic subunit of tumor ‐associated human kinase CK2. Thermal shift assay method, in silico modeling, and high‐performance liquid chromatography‐derived hydrophobicity together with IC50 values determined in biochemical assay were used to explain the ligand affinity to the catalytic subunit of human protein kinase CK2. Obtained results revealed that substitution of baicalein and chrysin with halogen atom increases their binding affinity to hCK2 α, and for 8‐chl...

In conclusion, the experiments presented here showed that the growing complexity of a mixture of phytochemicals seems to create a new redox bioactive substance rather than enrich the mixture with new activities, characteristic of the compound added. It follows that no simple, predictable relationship can be expected between the chemopreventive potential and the composition of real food items containing a complicated set of non-toxic redox active ingredients. Our observations suggest that the interactions between different bioactive compounds and food matrix components are cooperating factors determining the final bioactivi...

This study was aimed to analyse the expression level of lncRNA SNHG1 in colorectal adenocarcinoma and normal tissues. We performed an in silico analysis on a large cohort and confirmed the results by experimental analysis of clinical samples through real-time PCR. Our findings demonstrated that that SNHG1 is potentially overexpressed in tumor tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. The expression level of SNHG1 was shown to be potentially associated with clinicopathological features of tumors. The current study suggests the potential role of SNHG1 in colon cancer progression. In this study, novels Myrtenyl grafted pseudo-peptides were designed, synthesized and functionally characterized as possible therapeutic agents for cancer treatment. Thirteen novel Myrtenyl grafted pseudo-peptides were prepared in high atom economy and efficiency by a classic Ugi-4CR and sequential post-modification. Their structures were confirmed by NMR, and ESI-MS, and its cytotoxic activity was evaluated in three cancer cell lines and primary CD4+ T cells at different proliferative cycles. Our results revealed that some of these compounds showed significant cytotoxicity against human gastric, breast and colon adenocarc...
