The rise or fall of Neglected Tropical Diseases in East Asia Pacific.
The rise or fall of Neglected Tropical Diseases in East Asia Pacific. Acta Trop. 2019 Sep 21;:105182 Authors: Hotez PJ Abstract While the East Asia Pacific (EAP) region has experienced tremendous economic growth and development, the resulting public health gains from reductions in its neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) have been less than expected due to opposing forces of urbanization, political instability, food insecurity, and climate change, together with co-morbidities with non-communicable diseases, including diabetes and hypertension. To be sure there's been progress towards the elimination of lymphatic filariasis and trachoma through mass drug administration, and there are opportunities to extend MDA to yaws and scabies, but for most of the other NTDs we'll require new biotechnologies. So far, EAP's major technology hubs in China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan have mostly failed to shift their attention towards new innovations for the NTDs, including new drugs, diagnostics, and vaccines, and vector control. Unless this situation changes the EAP could be facing a new grim reality of unhealthy megacities beset by emerging arbovirus infections, widespread antimicrobial resistance, and urban helminth infections. Travel links to city shut down in bid to curb worst viral outbreak since Sars in 2003
This study compares the performances of three SF PPP models, namely the GRoup and PHase Ionospheric Correction (GRAPHIC) model, GRAPHIC with code observation model, and an ionosphere-constrained model, and evaluated the contribution of the QZSS to the SF PPP of GPS/BDS/GLONASS/Galileo systems. Moreover, the influence of code bias on the SF PPP of the BDS system is also analyzed. A two-week dataset (DOY 013–026, 2019) from 10 stations of the MGEX network is selected for validation, and the results show that: (1) For cut-off elevation angles of 15, 20, and 25°, the convergence times for the static SF PPP of GLONASS...

According to the metallogenic model for porphyry copper, we chose hydrothermal alteration mineral association and then established a remote sensing model. Relative absorption-band depth (RBD) and simple band combination methods in visible near infrared (VNIR) and shortwave infrared (SWIR) bands were used...
An outbreak of new coronavirus in China has sickened more than 500 people and killed at least a dozen, while spreading to countries around the world.
Snakes -- the Chinese krait and the Chinese cobra -- may be the original source of the newly discovered coronavirus that has triggered an outbreak of a deadly infectious respiratory illness in China this winter.
In conclusion, these results indicated that SXD produced beneficial sedative and hypnotic bioactivities mediated by regulating the serotonergic and immune system.
High blood pressure: A common diagnosis, that shows hardly any symptoms, but can be deadly. Hardened arteries and blood forced too hard against artery walls can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Fortunately, there are lifestyle improvements that can lower blood pressure and potentially save your life.
At least 17 people have died from the mystery illness. The sudden uptick in deaths prompted the authorities to ban most forms of travel from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the outbreak, ahead of the biggest travel day of the year.
Abbott Laboratories has been wildly successful with its FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitor (CGM) since winning FDA approval in 2017, but it seems some investors and patients may be getting restless as the U.S. market waits for the second-generation of the blockbuster technology. We first noted some signs of impatience for Libre 2 in our coverage of Abbott's third-quarter earnings call in October. One reader commented on that article that "I donât particularly care about investors becoming impatient, as a Freestyle Libre user I am growing impatie...
