Long-term survival is possible using cytoreductive surgery plus HIPEC for sarcomatosis. Case report of 2 patients

ConclusionAn effort to identify patients with sarcomatosis who are predicted to have a complete cytoreduction should occur when these patients are evaluated. Patients with a complete resection and a sarcoma-specific HIPEC may have prolonged disease-free survival. No other treatments for these patients have been described.

CONCLUSION: Outcomes for GBC patients remain unacceptable, and improved therapeutic strategies, including neoadjuvant chemotherapy, optimal surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy, should be considered for patients with advanced GBCs. PMID: 33033570 [PubMed]

We report the rare case of a patient co-existing NS and DLBCL. DLBCL might be pathogenesis of NS; the findings are supported by the presence of MN, an underlying malignancy (DLBCL), and the lack of anti-PLA2R antibodies. Although further investigation is warranted, our case suggests that DLBCL is a possible cause of secondary MN. PMID: 33028760 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Kim MS, Lee K, Ku JM, Choi YJ, Mok K, Kim D, Cheon C, Ko SG Abstract Pancreatic cancer has a poor prognosis with a five-year survival rate of less than 10%. Moreover, chemotherapy is mostly rendered ineffective owing to chemotherapy resistance and cytotoxicity. Therefore, the development of effective therapeutic strategies and novel drugs against pancreatic cancer is an urgent need. Cucurbitacin D (CuD), a plant steroid derived from Trichosanthes kirilowii, is an anticancer agent effective against various cancer cell lines. However, the anticancer activity and molecular mechanism of CuD in pancreatic cance...

We examined the course of CVP-I including results of an antibiotic eradication attempt of CVP-BSI. We investigated adults with CVP-I from 2010 to 2018 who had to undergo port explantation or were treated by a combination of systemic antibiotics and antibiotic lock therapy (ALT). In nine years we diagnosed 206 CVP-I (CVP-LI: 52; CVP-BSI: 152). In 146 patients with CVP-I the port system was primary explanted, while 56 patients received antibiotics/ALT. 79% of Gram negative pathogens and 50% of coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS) were eradicated. Failure of antibiotic treatment was more often associated with short time sp...

Authors: Zhang Y, Yuan Z, Shen R, Jiang Y, Xu W, Gu M, Gu X Abstract The capecitabine and oxaliplatin (CapeOX) regimen is a commonly used adjuvant chemotherapeutic regimen for gastric cancer (GC). However, some patients exhibit a poor chemotherapy response due to genetic differences among individuals. Therefore, finding an effective sensitization strategy for CapeOX is important in the treatment of GC. The present study aimed to investigate the predictive biomarkers of the CapeOX chemotherapeutic outcomes for patients with GC. A total of 30 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using the gene expres...

AbstractA vast majority of oral cancer patients in developing countries present in an advanced stage with borderline resectable/inoperable stage to busy resource-constrained tertiary cancer centers. Conventional chemotherapy protocols are associated with issues like toxicity, tolerance, cost, and compliance. The present study was conducted to assess the feasibility of low-cost home-based chemotherapy options. Single-arm feasibility study was done in borderline resectable/inoperable oral cancer patients. Home-based oral neoadjuvant chemotherapy consisting of oral methotrexate 15  mg/m2 once a week and oral celecoxib 20...
