Soft-Tissue Tumors Mimicking Arteriovenous Malformations

Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical examination, and computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings; biopsy is rarely performed because of a high risk of bleeding (1). Accordingly, there is a chance that some diseases can resemble AVM, which may result in poor clinical outcomes (2). The present report describes 4 cases of soft-tissue tumors that were initially misdiagnosed as AVMs and treated with ethanol embolotherapy. The institutional review board approved this report, and informed consent was waived.
