Protective Effects of Aqueous Extract of Baillonella toxisperma Stem Bark on Dexamethasone-Induced Insulin Resistance in Rats.

Protective Effects of Aqueous Extract of Baillonella toxisperma Stem Bark on Dexamethasone-Induced Insulin Resistance in Rats. Adv Pharmacol Sci. 2019;2019:8075163 Authors: Wego MT, Poualeu Kamani SL, Miaffo D, Nchouwet ML, Kamanyi A, Wansi Ngnokam SL Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the aqueous extract of Baillonella toxisperma stem bark on dexamethasone-induced insulin resistance in rats. A quantitative phytochemical study was done on the aqueous extract of Baillonella toxisperma for the total phenol, flavonoid, and flavonol determination. Insulin resistance was induced by intraperitoneal injection of dexamethasone (1 mg/kg) for 8 days, one hour before oral administration of different treatments (extract at doses of 60, 120, and 240 mg/kg and metformin at 40 mg/kg). During the test, body weight and blood glucose level were evaluated on days 1 and 8. At the last day of treatment, the glucose tolerance test was performed in rats; after that, blood samples were collected for triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL and HDL cholesterols, transaminases (ALT and AST), and total protein level determination. Organs (heart, liver, pancreas, and kidneys) were also collected for the relative organ weight determination. The results showed that the aqueous extract of B. toxisperma is rich in total phenols, flavonoids, and flavonols. This extract significantly reversed the metabolic alterations (lipid profile, pro...

Germacrone cooperates with dexmedetomidine to alleviate high-fat diet-induced type 2 diabetes mellitus via upregulating AMPKα1 expression. Exp Ther Med. 2019 Nov;18(5):3514-3524 Authors: Sun Y, Li L, Wu J, Gong B, Liu H Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of germacrone (GM) and dexmedetomidine (DEX) in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). A high-fat diet (HFD)-induced T2DM rat model was established. The experimental rats were divided into the control group, HFD group, GM treatment group, DEX treatment group and GM + DEX treatment group. In addition, adenosine...

Authors: Gao RY, Hsu BG, Wu DA, Hou JS, Chen MC Abstract Background: Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) acts as a potent metabolic regulator. Serum FGF21 levels were significantly higher in obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) populations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between serum FGF21 levels and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in T2DM patients. Methods: Fasting blood samples were obtained from 126 T2DM patients. MetS and its components were defined according to the diagnostic criteria from the International Diabetes Federation. Serum FGF21 concentrations were measured using a comm...

LHG has been utilized for the treatment of sore throats and hyperglycemia in folk medicine as a homology of medicine and food. The hypoglycemic pharmacology of LHG has attracted considerable attention, and mogrosides have been considered to be active ingredients ag...

Authors: Papakitsou I, Vougiouklakis G, Elisaf MS, Filippatos TD Abstract Dapagliflozin belongs in the family of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and acts by reducing glucose reabsorption in the proximal tubule. The aim of this review is to present the differential pharmacology and clinical utility of dapagliflozin. Dapagliflozin is orally administered, has a long half-life of 12.9 hours and (similar to empagliflozin) is a much weaker SGLT1 inhibitor compared with canagliflozin. Dapagliflozin significantly decreases glycated hemoglobin and fasting glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mel...

SummaryThe aim of this research was to study the clinical features and microvascular complications risk factors of early-onset type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We analyzed the clinical data from 1421 T2DM inpatients at Wuhan Union Hospital. Subjects were divided into early-onset T2DM group (diagnostic age40 years). All subjects underwent a standardized assessment of microvascular complications. Data were compared with independent-samplest test or Chi-square test. Multiple logistic regression was used to determine the risk factors of microvascular complications. Patients with early-onset T2DM were more inclined to have a lo...

Conclusion: The majority of patients studied had low HDL-C, elevated non HDL- C, elevated total cholesterol, elevated triglycerides, elevated LDL -C and elevated apo B. Apolipoprotein B had a positive linear correlation with total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C, non-HDL-C. The strongest positive correlation was with nonHDL-C. Patients with low HDL-C had high apo B levels. PMID: 31559765 [PubMed - in process]

In this study, therefore, we examined insulin dose reduction by ipragliflozin add-on therapy in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with long-acting basal insulin.MethodsIn this multicenter, open-label study, patients received one ipragliflozin 50-mg tablet once daily in combination with basal insulin for 24  weeks. The primary efficacy endpoint was the change and percent change in insulin dose from baseline to Week 24. Secondary efficacy endpoints included changes in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glycoalbumin, cholesterol, leptin, adiponectin, C-peptide, glucagon,...

CONCLUSION: Our findings showed that there is an association between rs17300539 with the increase of T2DM but rs266729 showed no association with the risk of T2DM. Allele A of rs17300539 increased the risk of diabetes. There is no association between adiponectin level and both polymorphisms. PMID: 31517610 [PubMed - in process]
