Computed tomography of chemiluminescence for the measurements of flames confined within a cylindrical glass

Computed tomography of chemiluminescence (CTC) is one kind of volumetric tomography which can recover 3D flame structures and has found ...

Objective: To compare the rate of malreduction after high fibular fractures associated with syndesmosis injury treated with open reduction and internal fixation, with either 2 screws or 1 knotless TightRope device. Design: Prospective randomized controlled multicenter trial. Setting: Eleven academic and community hospitals including Level 1 and Level 2 trauma centers across Canada. Patients/Participants: One hundred three patients with OTA/AO 44-C injuries with demonstrated radiographic syndesmosis diastasis or instability after malleolar bony fixation were followed for 12 months after treatment. Methods: Ope...

CONCLUSION: A substantial proportion of infants diagnosed with CF after detection by NBS already showed evidence of lung disease. P. aeruginosa colonization was associated with increas ed Bhalla scores, highlighting the importance of this CF pathogen in early structural lung disease. The presence of bronchial wall thickening at such a young age may reflect the presence of airway inflammatory processes. The detection and quantification of structural abnormalities with the modified Bhalla score may aid in the identification of lung disease before it is clinically apparent.

In this study, the impact resistance in the radial loading direction of nine tree species was studied using drop-tower testing, micro-computed tomography, and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that unlike in quasi-static conditions, density alone is a poor predictor of mechanical behavior in wood and that specific mesostructural features (interlocking grain, diffuse porous vessel distribution and intermittent rays) improved impact strength. A new, hierarchical failure of individual tracheids and the bulk fibers resembling progressive delamination of fiber-composites was observed in African mahogany, the most impac...

The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility and safety of four-dimensional computed tomography angiography (4D-CTA) for unclassified endoleaks by conventional computed tomography angiography (C-CTA) in patients after thoracic endovascular aortic repair.

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is an evolving diagnostic alternative to contrast-enhanced computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and fluorescence angiography for the evaluation of vascular diseases. Microbubble contrast material allows imaging of blood flow in microvasculature beyond the resolution of standard imaging techniques and demonstrates potential for the evaluation of tissue perfusion. Several authors have investigated the application of CEUS in the evaluation of myocardial or skeletal muscle perfusion and tumor characterization.

Functional popliteal artery entrapment syndrome (FPAES) is a rare disorder described in young, physically active adults that can be limb or performance threatening if untreated. We used provocative computed tomography angiography (CTA) in these patients to guide partial debulking of the anterolateral quadrant of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle for FPAES and reviewed the outcomes of this technique in this highly specialized cohort.

ConclusionsWithin the main limitation of this pilot study, that is, the small sample, it is possible to state that cephalometric measurements on 3T-MRI seem to possess adequate reliability and repeatability and that they show satisfying agreement with values measured on CBCTs. An MRI examination does not expose patients to ionizing radiation and could provide an alternative to CBCT for three-dimensional cephalometrics in the future.

AbstractObstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is strongly associated with adverse cardiovascular events. In these patients, increased oxidative stress has been associated with accelerated coronary atherosclerosis. However, it is unclear if OSA is associated with significant coronary artery plaque burden. Our aim is to determine whether OSA and/or markers of hypoxemia are associated with coronary plaque burden (CPB). Patients who had coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) and a polysomnogram within 1  year of each other between 2011 and 2016 were analyzed. Apnea–Hypopnea Index (AHI) and hypoxemic burden (ODI3%, ...
