Regarding “Histopathology and Clinical Outcomes of 151 Women with Postmenopausal Bleeding Treated with Resectoscopic Surgery”

We read with great interest the article of Vilos et al [1] who assessed hysteroscopic resection of the endometrium as a first line approach to evaluate patients with postmenopausal bleeding (PMB). The motivation behind this approach arises from the limitations of the well accepted screening through endometrial biopsy (EMB). We and others agree with the authors that EMB suffers from high rates of failure and inadequacy of the specimen [2 –5]. Unfortunately, the authors did not report on their experience with another screening modality that has an excellent negative prediction value – the transvaginal ultrasound (TVS).
