Conclusions: Among children with acute gastroenteritis who were younger than 5 years of age, L. reuteri compared with placebo, as an adjunct to rehydration therapy, did not reduce the duration of diarrhea; however, it reduced the duration of hospitalization.

In this study, we further characterized the ability of H-2b, H-2k, and H-2u molecules to influence adaptive immunity to Salmonella in MHC congenic mice. By depleting different cell populations during infection, we unexpectedly found that CD8 T cells, in addition to CD4 T cells, play a major role in accelerated clearance of bacteria from H-2k congenic hosts. Our data suggest that CD8 T cells accelerate clearance in some MHC congenic mouse strains and could therefore represent an unexpected contributor to the protective efficacy of Salmonella vaccines outside the typical studies in C57BL/6 mice.

In this study, we found that mortalin significantly inhibited the replication of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) through restricting virus entry. Mechanistically, a biochemical interaction between the carboxyl terminus of mortalin and clathrin heavy chain (CLTC) was been found, and mortalin could induce CLTC degradation through the proteasomal pathway, thereby inhibiting the clathrin-mediated endocytosis of PEDV into host cells. Recent epidemiological studies suggest that non-IgE-mediated childhood food allergic disorders such as eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE), celiac disease and allergic gastroenteritis (AG), may be increasing in parallel with previously observed increases in childhood IgE-mediated food allergy (FA) and food-induced anaphylaxis (FIA)1-4. The term AG encompasses food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), eosinophilic enteritis and colitis, food protein induced enteropathy, food hypersensitivity enteritis and colitis, but not EOE.
