Publication date: Available online 22 October 2019Source: Autoimmunity ReviewsAuthor(s): Daniel Blockmans, Raashid Luqmani, Lucia Spaggiari, Carlo SalvaraniAbstractWith advances in our understanding of the pathogenesis of large vessel vasculitides, we recognise the persistence of inflammation in large vessels, sometimes despite therapy to control clinical symptoms. Achieving an early diagnosis and establishing the extent of disease are important steps in improving our management of these diseases. Imaging is playing an increasing role in the assessment of these patients from diagnosis to prognosis. We review the current an...

ConclusionResults of the present study demonstrated that periodontitis was associated with SLE disease activity, and was a biomarker of immune aging. Furthermore, this biomarker could be a reliable predictor of periodontal condition and prognosis of periodontitis and can also help in selecting the most appropriate treatment strategy for periodontitis in patients with SLE.

Semin Neurol 2019; 39: 608-619 DOI: 10.1055/s-0039-1688990Vasculitic neuropathies are disorders that result from inflammation in the peripheral nerves' vascular supply, resulting in ischemic injury. These disorders may be a result of systemic inflammation or may be confined to the peripheral nervous system. Causative etiologies include primary systemic vasculitis, vasculitis secondary to other conditions such as primary connective tissue disorders, infectious, paraneoplastic, and drug-induced conditions, and nonsystemic vasculitic neuropathy. Early recognition and treatment of these conditions is imperative to prevent subs...

ConclusionsOur results showed that the number of relapses tended to be lower despite a significantly different lower amount of steroid after initiating hemodialysis compared with before initiating hemodialysis, and the burn-out phenomenon specific to uremic patients was inferred. We believe that early tapering of steroids should be considered to avoid death rather than focusing only on relapse.

We present the case of a patient with CMI and concomitant aortoiliac occlusive disease (AOID) who was ultimately treated with an aortobifemoral bypass and superior mesenteric artery endarterectomy because of the anatomy of the case and to prevent the need for a second operative time and more intensive care unit stay.

ConclusionAlthough both IFX and ADA are efficacious in refractory BD ‐related uveitis, ADA appears to be associated with better outcomes than IFX after 1 year of follow‐up.
