The Feasibility and Safety of No Placement of Urinary Catheter Following Lung Cancer Surgery: A Retrospective Cohort Study With 2,495 Cases.

Conclusion: This retrospective study with large sample of 2,495 patients provided evidence to the hypothesis that avoiding urinary catheterization contributed to decrease in the incidence of UTI and was safe and feasible in patients undergoing lung cancer surgery. In this study they also showed PTX3 localized in NETs formed after neutrophil activation (5). Proteomics analysis revealed that PTX3 forms complexes with two anti-microbial proteins [azurocidin (AZU1) and myeloperoxidase (MPO)] associated to NETs (30). More recently, PTX3 localization in NETs has been confirmed, and the colocalization with AZU1 and MPO has been defined more accurately (31). Further investigation will be needed to understand the involvement of PTX3 interaction with AZU1 and MPO in their antibacterial role during NET formation. Regulation of Complement Activation PTX3 interaction with microorganisms is not...

We examined patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with anti-PD-(L)1 mAb monotherapy or combination at two academic institutions. Those receiving ATB within 30 days of beginning ICI were compared to those who did not. Objective response, progression-free survival (PFS) determined by RECIST1.1 and overall survival (OS) were assessed. Results: Sixteen of 121 (13%) RCC patients and 48 of 239 (20%) NSCLC patients received ATB. The most common ATB were β-lactam or quinolones for pneumonia or urinary tract infections. In RCC patients, ATB compared to no ATB was ...

Authors: Chen J, Tao F, Zhang B, Chen Q, Qiu Y, Luo Q, Gen Y, Meng J, Zhang J, Lu H Abstract OBJECTIVE: We aimed to explore whether squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC), cytokeratin 19 fragment (Cyfra21-1), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) are elevated in diabetic nephropathy (DN) and the association between urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) and tumor markers in diabetic patients. METHODS: Nondialysis patients with diabetes (n = 261) and 90 healthy controls were enrolled. DN was defined as an UACR ≥ 30 mg/g in the absence of a urinary tract infe...

Various adverse events can occur during antineoplastic therapy. A 67-year-old diabetic woman developed an emphysematous urinary tract infection (UTI) associated with chemoradiotherapy for lung cancer. She had received weekly carboplatin plus paclitaxel with thoracic radiotherapy and developed a fever on day 19. Computed tomography showed a large quantity of gas within the urinary tract. She was therefore diagnosed with emphysematous UTI. Poor diabetes control due to the weekly administration of dexamethasone, an existing urinary tract obstruction, and bone marrow suppression were involved in her serious infection. The pote...
