Effect of taurine on ethanol-induced oxidative stress in mouse liver and kidney.

In conclusion, alcohol administration led to a significant influence on antioxidant system in the liver and kidney, but simultaneous intake of taurine, along with ethanol, partly attenuated the antioxidant changes in these organs. PMID: 31535630 [PubMed - in process]

The feasibility of the alcohol/salt ABF for exclusive partition of cytochrome c to one specific phase of the system was investigated. Aliphatic alcohols of different carbon chain length (ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol) and salts (sulfate, phosphate and citrate) were used for the phase formation. The...

In this study, the gel bead was characterized using FTIR, XPS, SEM, EDS, and 13C NMR. The experimental data shows that there is a strong correlation between adsorption capacity. The adsorption data fitted well with the Freundlich isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order model. The results of thermodynamics show that the adsorption process is spontaneous, endothermic, and increases entropy. The maximum adsorption capacity for DS was calculated as 493.81 mg/g at pH 5 (308 K). The adsorbent still exhibited excellent adsorption capacity after recycling five times, showing it has excellent potential for practica...

This study proposes composite stents with core–shell structure. Biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) yarns are twisted and then coated with polycaprolactone/polyethylene glycol (PEG) blends. The coated yarns are weft knitted into braids and then thermally treated to form composite stents with core–shell structure. The morphological, mechanical, and biological characteristics of the formed composite stents are evaluated to determine the effects of PEG concentration. Results show that composite stents acquire the flexibility of PVA yarns and elasticity of weft knits. The presence of PEG positively influences com...

Therefore there is clearly need to demonstrate these authenticity problems by modern analytical techniques. This review attempted to highlight the cur...

Conclusions We found a contextual preventive effect of community-level sports group participation on developing cognitive impairment among older individuals. Furthermore, the benefit may favor sports group participants. Therefore, promoting sports groups in a community setting may be effective as a population-based strategy for the prevention of dementia.

The second victim phenomenon is one in which nurses and other health care providers use dysfunctional mechanisms, such as anger, projection of blame, or drugs and/or alcohol, to cope with serious mistakes in the absence of a healthier means for healing. The main purpose of this article is to provide evidence and practices that support the need for caring organizational support systems following serious adverse clinical events. Recommendations are provided on key elements of programs to prevent the prevalence, symptoms, and impact of the second victim phenomenon on our health care professionals, our patients, and our health care system.

ConclusionsWe found no correlation between AFD and severity of alcohol dependence at detection in Indian Armed Forces personnel, which is contrary to what has been reported worldwide and in previous Indian studies. Delayed initiation of alcohol use among those enrolling in the Indian Armed Forces and early detection of alcohol dependence within the military environment are possible explanations.

Conclusion: Benzodiazepines and muscle relaxants were associated with serious falls among PLWH. Non-ART medication count, hazardous alcohol and illicit substance use, and opioid prescriptions were associated with serious falls in both groups. Prevention of serious falls should focus on reducing specific classes and absolute number of medications and both alcohol and illicit substance use.
