Functional movement screen pain location and impact on scoring has limited value for junior Australian football injury risk estimation - Fuller JT, Lynagh M, Tarca B, Zacharia A, Townsley A, Gleeson C, Milanese S, Chalmers S.

STUDY DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. BACKGROUND: Pain during Functional Movement Screen (FMS) testing is common and has a significant effect on FMS scoring but the effect on FMS injury risk predictions is unknown. OBJECTIVES: Describe th...

Conclusion: The presentation of PPCRA has been sporadic in the majority of cases. Inflammatory and hereditary origins have been anecdotally cited. Our young patient showed concurrent presentation of inflammatory and hereditary origin of PPCRA. We suggest that a careful investigation of systemic inflammation should be done in children with suggestive extraocular symptoms in the setting of PPCRA. Bone is richly innervated by nerve growth factor–responsive (NGF-responsive) tropomyosin receptor kinase A–expressing (TrKa-expressing) sensory nerve fibers, which are required for osteochondral progenitor expansion during mammalian skeletal development. Aside from pain sensation, little is known regarding the role of sensory innervation in bone repair. Here, we characterized the reinnervation of tissue following experimental ulnar stress fracture and assessed the impact of loss of TrkA signaling in this process. Sequential histological data obtained in reporter mice subjected to fracture demonstrated a marked ...

CONCLUSION: circRNAs in TMJ synovial tissue participate in the progression of TMJOA and may become a potential therapeutic target. The highly up-regulated has_circ_0000448 probably promotes TNF-α secretion of synovium through CeRNA mechanism in TMJOA. PMID: 31632516 [PubMed]

Moxibustion alleviates intervertebral disc degeneration via activation of the HIF-1α/VEGF pathway in a rat model. Am J Transl Res. 2019;11(9):6221-6231 Authors: Zhang B, Zhao Q, Li Y, Zhang J Abstract Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) induces serious back, neck and radicular pain. Recently, moxibustion has been suggested as an effective treatment for IDD. Thus, our study aims to investigate the molecular mechanism of moxibustion in IDD. A rat model of IDD was established by moxibustion treatment. Nucleus pulposus (NP) cells isolated from IDD rats or IDD rats treated with moxibustion were tra...

Failure after anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) leaves few options secondary to loss of bone stock and derangement of the soft tissues. Treatment modalities for prosthetic joint infection are as diverse as their efficacy and morbidity. Single- or two-stage revision arthroplasty is an option for treating prosthetic joint infections in patients who can be treated surgically. The use of an antibiotic cement spacer as definitive treatment also has been shown in recent literature to be a viable treatment in medically tenuous patients or in patients with infections. The uti...

Authors: Grace TR, Choo KJ, Patterson JT, Khanna K, Feeley BT, Zhang AL Abstract INTRODUCTION: Tailoring opioid prescriptions to inpatient use after orthopaedic procedures may effectively control pain while limiting overprescription but may not be common in the current orthopaedic practice. METHODS: A retrospective review identified opioid-naïve patients admitted after any orthopaedic procedure. Daily and total prescription quantities as well as patient-specific factors were collected. The total opioids used the day before discharge was compared with the total opioids prescribed for the day after discharge...

ConclusionsThis device was useful for finding the entry point and for reentry into the true lumen of a chronic total occlusion. It may be a valuable tool for recanalization of complex chronic total occlusion lesions.
