A Newborn with a Wrist Drop and a Skin Marking

A boy was born to a gravida 1 para 0 mother at 39  weeks of gestation via normal vaginal delivery after rupture of membranes greater than 24 hours, following an uneventful pregnancy. The baby weighed 3380 g, and Apgar scores were 9 and 10 at 1 and 5 minutes, respectively. Upon examination soon after birth, a left wrist drop was observed, presen ting with absent wrist and finger extension and intact left deltoid, biceps, and triceps function (Figure 1 and Video [available at www.jpeds.com]). Bruising and erythema were noted over the distal left lateral upper extremity (Figure 2; available at www.jpeds.com).
