The benefits of internal grant reviews can extend beyond positively impacting research funding success rates without incurring additional costs
Although the Opipari et al program published in The Journal allows reviewer anonymity, our internal grant review protocol is typically conducted in an open forum allowing others to observe, participate, and learn.1,2 It provides an opportunity for group discussion and more closely models National Institutes of Health gra nt reviews. This approach promotes a culture of transparency and collegiality, the breakdown of research silos, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an attitude of support.2
