Paediatric case of gastrointestinal basidiobolomycosis mimicking appendicitis - Case Report

DiscussionThe patient presented with severe abdominal pain in the right lower quadrant, as well as fever and vomiting. These complaints may have been misdiagnosed as appendicitis. The diagnosis of gastrointestinal basidiobolomycosis was confirmed by histopathology, based on a surgical specimen taken during the primary exploration. The management was a combination between surgical intervention and medical treatment.

BrainAbstractQuantitative physicochemical models of human acid–base physiology filled a void between clinical acid–base analysis and general fluid physiology. Established approaches centred on the Henderson–Hasselbalch (HH) equation allow satisfactory bedside exploration of respiratory perturbations, but do not fully elucidate mechanisms of common non-respiratory ‘metabolic’ components. Though useful at the bedside, commonly used ‘rules...

In this study, LC/NE neurons were pre-lesioned by N-(2-chloroethyl)-N-ethyl-2-bromobenzylamine (DSP-4) in paraquat and maneb-induced mouse PD model. We found that DSP-4 significantly impaired learning and memory performance in paraquat and maneb-treated mice, although it failed to interfere with constipation and depression-like behaviors. Consistently, DSP-4 treatment increased hippocampal neurodegeneration, synaptic loss, α-synuclein expression and Ser129-phosphorylation in mice treated with these two pesticides. Mechanistically, DSP-4 increased iron content in hippocampus by disrupting the balance of iron release p...

The tumor was irregularly shaped and exhibited heterogeneous enhancement on dynamic computed tomography (CT). Whole-body positron emission tomography-CT showed an abnormal fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in the liver tumor, with a maximum standardized uptake value of 12.82. During the ensuing three ...

A cross-sectional study with a nonprobabilistic sample was conducted. Seventy asymptomatic individuals were grouped as UC or BC to assess differe...

Conclusion: A combination of laparoscopic reduction and nonsutured PEG gastropexy is a safe and effective alternative treatment for high-risk patients (with significant morbidity and mortality) with symptomatic PHs. Most patients (80%) returned to normal oral intake postprocedure and were discharged home within 3 d. PMID: 31624456 [PubMed - in process]

Discussion: The incidence of rhabdomyosarcoma arising from endometriosis is exceedingly rare. The accuracy of diagnosing endometriosis and ruling out neoplasm requires coordinated efforts of a multidisciplinary team, involving radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, and gynecologic surgeons.
