We report the case of a 44-year-old patient with low back pain and radiculopathy. Radiographs revealed lytic spondylolisthesis in L5. Magnetic resonance imaging showed hypointense signal on T1 and a heterogeneous signal on T2 located in the L4-L5 interspinous space and in the left facet joint that invades left neuroforamen. The left knee ultrasound showed “double contour” of the medial femoral condyle. Decompressive laminectomy with arthrodesis at the level of L5-S1 was performed. The histological examination revealed amorphous material with a foreign body giant cell reaction.ResumenLos depósitos de tofo...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewLiver transplantation (LT) has been utilized in the last two decades for the treatment of selected patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Currently, in most jurisdictions worldwide, only tumor size and number determine transplant candidacy, which may not sufficiently predict tumor behavior. Both tumor downstaging and expanding transplant criteria play an important role in expanding access to LT for HCC patients.Recent FindingsNew downstaging protocols are emerging that incorporate response to locoregional therapies (LRT) among those that initially present beyond the accepted Milan criteria. ...

We present the case of a patient withBRAF-negative stage IVC anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) treated with the anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody, pembrolizumab, following radiographic progression on chemoradiation. Blood samples were collected prior to and at four time points during treatment with pembrolizumab. Mass cytometry was used to determine expression of relevant biomarkers by peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Faecal samples were collected at baseline and 4  weeks following treatment initiation; taxonomic profiling using 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene sequencing was performed. Following treatment, a marked ex...

AbstractPurposeThere are still no data proving whether restoring the ideal sagittal profile (according to Roussouly classification) in adult scoliosis (AS) patients leads to any additional benefit, especially regarding mechanical complications.MethodsRetrospective analysis of operated AS patients recorded in a prospective multicenter database. Demographic and radiographic (preoperative and 6-week postoperative) data were analyzed. Patients with and without mechanical complications were compared looking especially at the surgical restoration of the ideal (based on Pelvic Incidence) sagittal profile. Univariate and multivari...

ConclusionMore than half of patients with brainstem CM have impaired quality of life. Fatigue, anxiety, and social function, in addition to physical dysfunction, are common; practitioners should be aware of these concerns. PROMIS-29 provides additional information than modified Rankin Score and should be considered in clinical trials and when assessing treatment outcomes until a disease-specific outcome tool is available.
