IJERPH, Vol. 16, Pages 3469: Risk of Endometriosis and Subsequent Ovary and Breast Cancers in Nurses: A Population-Based Cohort Study in Taiwan

Conclusions: Nurses are at a higher risk of developing endometriosis. However, the link between endometriosis and subsequent cancers is weak.

Semin Respir Crit Care Med 2019; 40: 402-409 DOI: 10.1055/s-0039-1695050There are several pleural diseases that occur either predominantly or exclusively in females. Most of these entities are related to obstetric or gynecological conditions. In this article, we will provide an overview of Meigs' syndrome, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, endometriosis, catamenial pneumothorax, catamenial hemothorax, pleural effusions that occur in the peripartum period, lymphangioleiomyomatosis, and malignant pleural effusions related to breast cancer. As most of these diagnoses are rare, considerable expertise is required to identify, ...

ConclusionsThe overall risk of breast cancer in women with surgically verified endometriosis was similar to that of general population. However, the risk of breast cancer at young age was increased. Young women with surgically verified endometriosis represent highly symptomatic patients with more frequent surgeries and additional therapies that might also contribute to the risk of breast cancer.

Most available therapies for endometriosis are hormone-based and generally broadly used without taking into consideration the ovarian hormone receptor expression status. This contrasts strikingly with the standard of care for other hormone-based conditions such as breast cancer. We therefore aimed to characterize the expression of ovarian steroid hormone receptors for estrogen alpha (ESR1), estrogen beta (ESR2), and progesterone (PGR) in different types of endometriotic lesions and eutopic endometrium from women with endometriosis and controls using a tissue microarray (TMA). Nuclear expression levels of the receptors were...

Conclusion: Clinical studies in breast cancer patients from Asia have primarily investigated the effect of leuprorelin on the protection of ovarian function in patients who receive chemotherapy, assessed the ability of leuprorelin to suppress serum estradiol to menopausal levels, or to determine the efficacy and safety of leuprorelin in daily medical practice. This study evaluated the association between BRCA mutation status and serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) level in young, reproductive-aged patients with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: Patients ≤ 40 years of age with breast cancer and who had known BRCA status and baseline serum AMH level at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea, were considered for inclusion. A total of 52 BRCA mutation carriers (27 BRCA1 and 25 BRCA2) and 264 non-carriers were selected for analyses. The serum level of AMH was compared according to presence of a BRCA mutation, and linear and logistic regression analyses were performed to eva...

AbstractSome studies have suggested that infertility is a risk factor for endometrial, ovarian and breast cancer. The study aimed to create a comprehensive picture of the association between infertility and the risk of ovarian, endometrial and breast cancer, and whether any association could be explained by ovulatory disturbances, endometriosis or nulliparity. In a population-based cohort of 2,882,847 women, cox regression analysis was used to investigate cancer incidence among infertile women. Overall, infertility was associated with a higher incidence rate of ovarian (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 1.53, 95% confidence inte...

ConclusionsOur finding of an increased risk of HGSC associated with PID lends support to the hypothesis that inflammatory processes may be involved in the etiology of HGSC.
