CONCLUSIONS: Primary anatomic TSA using a bundled care program in an outpatient setting coincides with markedly lower charges. The primary driver of this reduction is implant pricing, which is negotiated as part of the bundle. Surgeons must carefully analyze their unique practices in the changing economic health care environment when creating an outpatient TSA and/or bundling program. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III economic analysis. PMID: 31834035 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study, therefore, aimed to establish the effect of high-salt diet (SD) on uric acid (UA) production and the role of S. maydis in salt-induced phenotypes. Four groups of randomly selected rats (n = 5) were fed with normal rat feed, corn silk extract (500 mg/kg), SD (8%) and corn silk extract plus high-salt feed. After 6 weeks of the experimental procedure, each animal was anesthetized by exposure to chloroform vapor and blood samples collected by cardiac puncture. Data were expressed in means ± SEM and p values

ConclusionCigarette smoke exposure alters bone matrix composition and worsens bone mineralization, leading to bone fragility by increasing collagen V synthesis and deposition and impairing collagen I fibril forming and assembling. And these deleterious effects contributed to the worsening in fracture healing after tibia osteotomy.

Hemin plays a protective role in hypoxic and ischemic brain damage; however, its effects on sevoflurane-induced neurotoxicity remain unclear. Our aim was to investigate the mechanisms of sevoflurane neurotoxicity and potential neuroprotective roles of hemin upon sevoflurane exposure.Main methodsHippocampi were harvested 18 h af...

Authors: Williams M, Jacobson KA Abstract The recent cloning of a number of distinct receptors belonging to the P2-purinoceptor superfamily has provided conclusive evidence for a pivotal role for ATP and other nucleotides as effector molecules involved in cell-to-cell communication and the modulation of many basic aspects of tissue function. ATP itself is being clinically evaluated as a cytotoxic agent for the treatment of cancer and as an adjunct to inhalation anaesthetic use. The pyrimidine nucleotide, UTP, is in clinical trials for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. The stable ATP bioisostere, ARL 67085, is being...

Background: The aim of this study was to determine whether or not the short- and long-term outcomes were affected by the age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index (ACCI) in patients who underwent curative resection for gastric cancer. Methods: The patients were retrospectively selected from among the medical records of consecutive patients who underwent curative gastrectomy with nodal dissection for gastric cancer at Yokohama City University and Kanagawa Cancer Center from January 2000 to August 2015.Results: A total of 2254 patients were eligible for inclusion in the present study. One thousand six hundred fifty-six patients had an ACCI of
