Work-Related Predictors of Sleep Quality in Chinese Nurses: Testing a Path Analysis Model

Conclusions/Implications for Practice Sleep quality in Chinese nurses is influenced directly and indirectly by various modifiable work-related factors. Interventions such as adjusting work shifts and reducing job burdens should be prioritized by administrative staff to ensure the sleep quality and clinical performance of Chinese nurses and to subsequently improve nursing care quality.

Here we analyse fMRI correlations to directly test connectivity within and from the brainstem. Resting and task functional MRI (fMRI) were acquired for 45 ME/CFS (Fukuda criteria) and 27 healthy controls...

ChanAbstractChronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is often overlooked, has unclear etiology and no effective cure except some symptomatic treatments. Additionally, most people with CFS do not seek medical attention. Qigong exercise, an ancient Eastern body-mind-spirit practice, has been long practiced in Chinese communities and may powerfully trigger the self-healing process. Using full baseline data (n = 1409), the average Hong Kong CFS respondent was found to be female, mar...

CONCLUSIONS: Exercise therapy probably has a positive effect on fatigue in adults with CFS compared to usual care or passive therapies. The evidence regarding adverse effects is uncertain. Due to limited evidence it is difficult to draw conclusions about the comparative effectiveness of CBT, adaptive pacing or other interventions. All studies were conducted with outpatients diagnosed with 1994 criteria of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the Oxford criteria, or both. Patients diagnosed using other criteria may experience different effects. PMID: 31577366 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Griffin, Michelle Grech, Andrew NealAbstractThe aim of the present study was to examine how different work demands and resources characteristic to the maritime industry are related to chronic fatigue in seafarers. Moreover, we investigated the role of different fatigue related processes, such as acute fatigue, sleep problems and inter-shift recovery in explaining the association between work characteristics and chronic fatigue. 199 seafarers working for the marine operations of a large global mining company participated in...

Discussion This retrospective study adds supportive evidence to the association of drug classes with PLMS and PLMD. These findings may impact on clinical management of patients with a combined anxiety or mood disorder in need for these drug classes on the one hand and a significant sleep architecture disturbance through PLMS, potentially contributing to daytime symptoms, on the other hand. Profound and debilitating fatigue is the most common complaint reported among individuals with autoimmune disease, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, and rheumatoid arthritis. Fatigue is multi-faceted and broadly defined, which makes understanding the cause of its manifestations especially difficult in conditions with diverse pathology including autoimmune diseases. AbstractObjectiveTo observe the clinical efficacy of moving cupping on the back for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)-related sleep disorders.MethodsA total of 60 patients with CFS-related sleep disorders were randomized into a control group and an observation group, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was treated with oral administration of fluoxetine hydrochloride capsule. The observation group was treated with moving cupping on the back, once every other day. The efficacy was observed after 4 weeks of treatment. The fatigue scale-14 (FS-14) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) were assessed be...
