87 Evolution of Atrial Fibrillation

ConclusionThere has been a significant increase in primary prevention practices for AF and this is reflected in the number of stroke patients presenting with known AF on a NOAC, however more needs to be done as there are still patients who have AF that are not being anticoagulated in the community.

The fabrication method involves controlling the residual stresses in the structure to predefine the initial deflection of the actuator, resulting in a larger actuation stroke. The residual stress control exploits the unique properties of ultra-high vacuum e-beam evaporated film to form thick tensile polysilicon as the actuator structural layer. This is...

The feasibility of the alcohol/salt ABF for exclusive partition of cytochrome c to one specific phase of the system was investigated. Aliphatic alcohols of different carbon chain length (ethanol, 1-propanol and 2-propanol) and salts (sulfate, phosphate and citrate) were used for the phase formation. The...

In this study, the gel bead was characterized using FTIR, XPS, SEM, EDS, and 13C NMR. The experimental data shows that there is a strong correlation between adsorption capacity. The adsorption data fitted well with the Freundlich isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order model. The results of thermodynamics show that the adsorption process is spontaneous, endothermic, and increases entropy. The maximum adsorption capacity for DS was calculated as 493.81 mg/g at pH 5 (308 K). The adsorbent still exhibited excellent adsorption capacity after recycling five times, showing it has excellent potential for practica...

Wesley PikeAbstractCyp27b1 and Cyp24a1 are reciprocally regulated in the kidney by the key hormones PTH, FGF23, and 1,25(OH)2D3. Our recent genomic studies in mice identified a complex kidney-specific enhancer module located within the introns of adjacent Mettl1 (M1) and Mettl21b (M21) genes that mediate basal and PTH induction of Cyp27b1 as well as suppression by FGF23 and 1,25(OH)2D3. Gross deletion of these segments in mice has severe consequences on skeletal health, and directl...

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) and multidrug resistance complex (MDR-1 or P-glycoprotein) overexpression are main mechanisms implicated in chemoresistance. Increased aldehyde dehro...

The majority of the LMW gelators in these applications are based on functionalized peptides/amino acids consisting of proteinogenic amino acids which are proteolytical...

This study proposes composite stents with core–shell structure. Biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) yarns are twisted and then coated with polycaprolactone/polyethylene glycol (PEG) blends. The coated yarns are weft knitted into braids and then thermally treated to form composite stents with core–shell structure. The morphological, mechanical, and biological characteristics of the formed composite stents are evaluated to determine the effects of PEG concentration. Results show that composite stents acquire the flexibility of PVA yarns and elasticity of weft knits. The presence of PEG positively influences com...

Conclusions: Many unnecessary tests are obtained to evaluate syncope. Selecting tests based on history and examination and prioritizing less expensive and higher yield tests would ensure a more informed and cost-effective approach to evaluating older patients with syncope._____________________________________________________________________________4)    Reed MJ.  The ROSE (Risk Stratification of syncope in the emergency department) Study.  J Am Coll Cardiol, 2010; 55:713-721, doi:10.1016/j.jacc.2009.09.049  Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a clinical deci...
