Contributors : Kim Eun-Min ; Yong Tai-SoonSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiensA total of 1,301 differentially expressed genes were identified: 521 upregulated and 780 downregulated. Furthermore, p21 and PAI levels decreased, which coincided with decreases in E-cadherin and increases in fibronectin expression, in cells stimulated with Clonorchis sinensis excretory/secretory products (ESPs) and NDMA. Cancer-related proteins, such as EGFR, K-ras, and PCNA, were significantly upregulated in cells exposed to C. sinensis ESPs and NDMA. Our results showed that C. sinensis ESPs an...

We examined 438 fresh skulls of pine marten (Martes martes) from Germany to check for the presence of the cranial trematodeTroglotrema acutum. The parasite was detected in the frontal sinuses of one 3-year-old road-killed male from the Rhoen Mountains (Thuringia). We detected 19 adultT. acutum and 34 eggs. The infested pine martens showed no deformations or lesions of the skull. This is the first time that specimens of the trematode were recovered from a pine marten from Germany, but the low prevalence of 0.23% confirms that the pine marten is only a rare host ofT. acutum.

This study reviews historical and recent data on fasciolosis in the West Indies, revealing for the first time the outcomes of sympatric and allopatric fluke/snail interactions in the area by exploring the susceptibility of four lymnaeid species after exposure to F. hepatica isolates from Cuba, the Dominican Republic and France. Overall, Galba cubensis showed a mean prevalence of 71.8% and appears to be the most suitable intermediate host species irrespective of the isolate used. Sympatric combinations (snail and parasite from the same country) were generally more compatible (higher susceptibility, parasite intensity and sn...

AbstractNatural killer (NK) cells are innate immune lymphocytes which express an array of activating and inhibitory receptors. These receptors bind a large spectrum of ligands, which are expressed on stressed, malignantly transformed or virally infected cells, as well as on bacterial, fungal, and parasitic pathogens. The decision on whether or not to kill the target is based on the integration of activating and inhibitory signals sent downstream from NK cell receptors. One of the most prominent NK cell activating receptor families is the family of natural cytotoxicity receptors (NCRs) which includes NKp30, NKp44, and NKp46...

AbstractToxoplasmosis is a zoonotic food-borne disease with global distribution. The principal aim of this research was to detect the seroprevalence ofT. gondii infection in cattle, dogs and cats in dairy farms with high incidence of abortion, as well as to identify associated risk factors in Hamedan, Iran. A number of four large dairy farms with high history of abortion were selected and evaluated for risk factors associated toT. gondii infection. Blood samples were taken from 400 of pregnant cattle, 85 of dogs and 35 of cats (all of the dogs and cats population from interring and around of farms were sampled). The sample...
