Human papillomavirus and risk factors for cervical adenocarcinoma in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil

Conclusions: the factors associated with cervical adenocarcinoma were ≥ 40 years old, ≤ 3 years of schooling, black race, menopausal status, never had undergone cervical cancer screening and the presence of HPV.Resumo Objetivos: determinar a incid ência dos principais Papilomavirus Humano (HPV) de alto risco oncogênico (16, 18, 31 e 33) e os fatores associados ao adenocarcinoma do colo uterino. Resultados: o adenocarcinoma foi associado à idade>40 anos (OR=2,95; IC95%=1,13 - 7,71), escolaridade40 anos, escolaridade

Conclusion: Moving from uncertainty toward acceptance was identified as the core concept in the Iranian women's experiences of encountering menopause. Modifying the beliefs of people about menopause and aging as well as increasing their knowledge and information about menopause can help women to experience the menopausal transition with more ease. The Pan-Mass Challenge fundraiser has raised a record-breaking $63 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the largest financial gift in the cancer hospital ’s history.  The PMC, which hosts a two-day, 192-mile bike ride to raise funding for Dana-Farber and The Jimmy Fund, has raised more than $717 million for the health system since 1980, helping to support development of 41 of 100 new FDA-approved cancer drugs.  “I am extremely grateful for th e generous support received from the Pan-Mass…

Publication date: Available online 18 October 2019Source: Molecular Aspects of MedicineAuthor(s): Lukas Valihrach, Peter Androvic, Mikael KubistaAbstractSuccessful treatment of cancer depends on early diagnosis and effective monitoring of patients’ response to therapy. Traditional tools based on tumor biopsies lack the sensitivity and specificity to capture cancer development in its early phases and are not applicable for continuous monitoring. To overcome these barriers, liquid biopsies have been introduced as a minimally invasive and cost-efficient means of diagnosis with high level of specificity and sensitivity. ...

Meanwhile, circular RNAs, a subset of noncoding RNAs, plays an important role in glucose metabolism and cancer progression. Analysis of low-glucose-treated and normal-glucose-treated MIA PaCa-2 cells from 6 samples (3 samples each group) was conducted. Results indicate insight into molecular signature of the pathogenesis of PDAC in abberant glucose metabolism.

CONCLUSION: Radiolabelled PSMA imaging seems to be useful in analyzing glioma/glioblastoma. Further studies enrolling a wider population are needed to clarify the real clinical and diagnostic role of radiolabelled PSMA in this setting and its possible position in the diagnostic flow-chart. ConclusionMRI has good diagnostic performance for assessing myometrial invasion in patients with endometrial cancer, especially in patients younger than 60 years old. Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI and diffusion weighted imaging can help improve sensitivity and specificity for detecting myometrial invasion. MRI shows high specificity for detecting cervical invasion and lymph node metastases in endometrial cancer.

Authors: Philipp-Dormston WG, Battistella M, Boussemart L, Di Stefani A, Broganelli P, Thoms KM Abstract Introduction: Actinic keratosis (AK) is a chronic skin condition that can be a precursor to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. AK can recur and patients are likely to undergo multiple treatments. It is important that AK lesions are managed appropriately, and that patients are involved in treatment decisions. Materials and methods: The Supporting Professional Expertise in AK (SPEAK) program aims to facilitate this patient-centered care by identifying patient needs and aiding healthcare practitioners (HCPs) in sel...

Authors: Garcia-Robledo JE, Barrera MC, Tobón GJ Abstract CRISPR/Cas evolved as an adaptive immune system in bacteria and archaea to inactivate foreign viral and plasmid DNA. However, the capacities of various CRISPR/Cas systems for precise genome editing based on sequence homology also allow their use as tools for genomic and epigenomic modification in eukaryotes. Indeed, these genetic characteristics have proven useful for disease modeling and testing the specific functions of target genes under pathological conditions. Moreover, recent studies provide compelling evidence that CRISPR/Cas systems could be u...

We report a case of misdiagnosed endometrial cancer by D&C, but with a positive cytopathological finding. Following that, a meta-analysis including 4,179 patients of endometrial diseases with cyto-histopathological results was performed to assess the value of the endometrial cytological method in endometrial cancer diagnosis. The pooled sensitivity and specificity of the cytological method in detecting endometrial atypical hyperplasia or cancer was 0.91[95% confidence interval (CI) 0.74–0.97] and 0.96 (95% CI 0.90–0.99), respectively. The pooled positive likelihood ratio and negative likelihood ratio was 25.4 (...
