CONCLUSION: The combination of recession and resection procedures with nasal loop myopexy was found to be effective in correcting the ocular deviation and limitation to elevation in abduction by correcting the deflected course of superior rectus and medial rectus to result in an effective improvement of elevation in abduction. One case had an overcorrection of exotropia. There were no other major complications. PMID: 31612771 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS The proportion of myopic women in labor receiving ophthalmological consultations showed an increasing trend over time. Despite publication of the Ophthalmology-Obstetrics Consensus of the Polish Society of Ophthalmology guidelines, myopia still remains an indication for cesarean section (cesarian section), but not to shorten the second stage of delivery. Abstract AIM: To investigate the protective behaviours of longer near work distance, discontinuing near work and more time outdoors in recess from parent self-report in the myopia prevalence and progression among myopic children aged 9-11 years. METHODS: Myopia Investigation study in Taipei is a longitudinal population-based study that enrolled elementary school students in Taipei. We provided vision and refraction examination every 6 months. Spherical equivalent (SE) of cycloplegic refraction ≤-0.50 Diopter (D) is defined as myopia. Total 10 743 (70.4%) students completed 2-year refraction d...

We evaluate the impact of duration on the treatment effect of multifocal spectacle lenses used to inhibit myopia progression in children. A systematic literature search identified randomized controlled trials where multifocal lenses were prescribed as the intervention, with single vision lenses as the control. Nine randomized control trials involving 1701 children aged eight to 13 years, were included in the meta-analysis. Treatment effects, i.e. differences in spherical equivalent refraction between intervention and non-intervention groups, were analyzed over both six- and 12-month intervals.

CONCLUSION: This study revealed significant association of 4q25, 15q14 and MIPEP variants with myopia and different severity of myopia in southern Chinese population, joint additively enhancing 10-fold of risk predisposing to high myopia. The correlation of these associated variants with axial length and corneal parameters suggests their contribution to the refractive status in high myopia subjects. ConclusionsThis study presents data of a large series of refractive changes secondary to lateral rectus recession, and of long-term myopia progression in Korean population.

A child receives treatment in the northeastern district of Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Credit: Naimul Haq/IPS By External SourceGENEVA, Oct 8 2019 (IPS) A staggering 2.2 billion people already suffer from eye conditions and visual impairment today, but the global need for eye care is set to increase “dramatically”, with lack of exercise a key factor, the UN health agency said on Tuesday, unveiling its first ever report on vision across the world. While welcoming recent successes in eliminating common conditions such as trachoma in eight countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted evidence indicating ...

Purpose: To investigate the characteristics of corneal biomechanics in Chinese preschool children with different refractive status. Methods: Study participants were 108 Chinese children (216 eyes) aged 4 to 6 years with a spherical equivalent refraction between −9.00 and +9.00 diopters (D). Cycloplegic refraction was measured using an autorefractor, axial length using an IOL Master (Zeiss, Oberkochen, Germany), and corneal biomechanical metrics and corneal power using an ultra-high-speed camera (Corvis ST; Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany) and Pentacam (Oculus; Menlo Park, CA). Differences in corneal biometry and biomec...
