AminiAbstractThe impact of 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMIM-Cl) ionic liquid for effective graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets dispersion improvement in the epoxy coating was studied. The BMIM-Cl adsorption on the GO sheets was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis and UV–vis spectroscopy. The effect of GO-BMIM-Cl on the corrosion resistance of the epoxy coating was studied by EIS and salt spray test. In addition, the inhibition role of BMIM-Cl toward mild steel corrosion in saline solution was evaluated by EIS and polarization test. Results confirmed that the BMIM-Cl adsorption on the GO surface significantly enhanced the epoxy coating protection properties.Graphical abstract
