Prognostic Factors for Survival in Patients with Clear Cell Sarcoma: An Analysis of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Database.

CONCLUSIONS The findings from this study showed that the identifiable prognostic factors in patients with CCS were stage and tumor size. Local stage and tumor size ≤3 cm were favorable prognostic factors for patient survival in CCS. PMID: 31522190 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract An accurate profiling of the genomic landscape is mandatory to establish the best clinical and therapeutic approach for patients with solid malignancies. Moreover, tumor cells constantly adapt to external pressures-i.e., systemic treatment-with the selection and expansion of resistant subclones and the emergence of heterogeneous overlapping genomic alterations of resistance. The current standard for molecular characterization in cancer is the performance of a tissue tumor biopsy at the time of diagnosis and, when possible, a re-biopsy at the time of progression. However, tissue biopsy is not always feasib...

We report an unprecedented case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in the floor of mouth of a 23-year-old woman with XP. The patient was referred to the oncologist and, two months after surgical resection, underwent a single chemotherapy and radiotherapy session. However, she died 73 hours after undergoing her first chemotherapy session. Considering the unexpected outcome of this case, we also investigated possible exacerbated adverse effects of antineoplastic treatments (especially cisplatin-based chemotherapy) in XP patients, and discussed the main characteristics of the disease, especially cases with oral manifestations d...

Over the last quarter of a century, I’ve written about a lot of different aspects of science and medical research. Cancer features a lot, the Big C is prominent in human misery and more common than many other diseases. Often I’ll use a phrase such as “treating liver, bowel, lung, breast, prostate and other cancers”. One phrase I don’t think I’ve ever written, until today is “heart cancer”. Heart cancer? Do people even get heart cancer? Almost every other organ from skin to brain from gonads to liver, from head and neck to bone and blood, there’s a cancer. Expe...
