Unexpected bleeding after Exenatide treatment: a causative relationship or a coincidence?

CONCLUSIONS: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of spontaneous bleeding probably caused by Exenatide. The exact pathophysiology, by which the drug can cause spontaneous bleeding, is still not clear and has to be revealed. PMID: 31517602 [PubMed - in process]

In this study, we detected for just the second time a SINV infection in a diseased wild bird (common wood pigeon) from Central Europe. SINV was isolated by cell culture and the complete SINV genome sequence was determined. Phylogenetic analyses revealed a close affiliation to SINV genotype I with a high similarity to human isolate sequences from Finland, Sweden and Russia. The isolate was genetically distinct from the first avian isolate suggesting the circulation of at least two different SINV strains in Germany. In order to reveal the infection frequency in SINV positive mosquito regions 749 bird blood samples were assaye...

This study aims to explore the role of lncRNAs in the glucometabolic action of metformin on skeletal muscle cells.Main methodsMetformin accumulation was assessed using [14C]-metformin. A lncRNA array was used to investigate metformin-regulated lncRNAs in C2C12 skeletal muscle cells. Knockdown studies were applied to evaluate the function of lncRNA Dreh. A colorimetric assay was used for the measurement of medium glucose concentration; glucose transport was assessed using [3H]-2-deoxyglucose; real-time PCR was used for RNA expression analysis, and western blotting was used to assess protein expression in myotubes. A Dreh ov...

Potential therapeutic effect of SO₂ on fibrosis. Histol Histopathol. 2019 Oct 11;:18169 Authors: Wang XB, Cui H, Du JB Abstract Fibrosis is a pathological feature of most chronic diseases and leads to the dysfunction of various organs. However, there is currently no effective method for treating fibrosis. In recent years, a small gas, sulfur dioxide (SO₂), which can be generated endogenously in mammals, has been found to have vasorelaxation activity, improve cardiac function and decrease myocardial injury. Endogenous SO₂ also mediates the process of fibrosis. Inhibition of endogenous SO₂ can ag...

Curcumin, the main compound of spice turmeric -as one of the natural products-was demonstrated to possess effective anti-cancer properties, with no significant effect on normal cells in dose and/or time-dependent manner. Authors: Thabet AF, Moeen SM Abstract Treatment of chronic primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is challenging especially with limited resources and therapy-related complications. This prospective interventional study assessed the efficacy and safety of triple therapy(TT4); a combination treatment of oral dexamethasone 40 mg for days1-4, oral cyclosporine A 2-3 mg/kg daily for 28 consecutive days and intravenous rituximab 100 mg for days7,14,21 and 28 among 40 patients with ITP who failed previous 2 or more treatment options. Our aim was to maintain platelet count ≥ 30 X 109/L without any obvious bleeding at an...

This study aims to investigate the current status of FI among patients with severe neurological conditions and to further determine the correlation between FI and their poor prognosis. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the medical data of 58 patients who stayed for more than 3 days in the neurointensive care unit (NICU) of the Department of Neurology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between January 2017 and December 2017, was carried out. These patients' diagnoses included five categories (Stroke, Paroxysmal disease, Peripheral nerve disease, Central nervous system infection, Other diseas...

CONCLUSIONS: The rate of overall complications after TRUS was low. The most common complications requiring emergency attendances and hospitalisations were gross haematuria and acute urinary retention, respectively. Prostate volume>48 cc increased the risk of post-biopsy urinary retention. PMID: 31601774 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
