Resistance training alone or combined with leucine supplementation improves the serum lipid profile of diabetic rats, whereas leucine alone does not.

CONCLUSION: The diabetic trained rats demonstrate a protective effect of resistance training on the serum lipid profile. PMID: 31517608 [PubMed - in process]

ular Biology; Council on Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health; Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young; Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing; and Council on Clinical Cardiology Abstract Hypertriglyceridemia (triglycerides 200-499 mg/dL) is relatively common in the United States, whereas more severe triglyceride elevations (very high triglycerides, ≥500 mg/dL) are far less frequently observed. Both are becoming increasingly prevalent in the United States and elsewhere, likely driven in large part by growing rates of obesity and diabetes mellitus. In a 2002 American Heart Association scientific sta...

In this study, 870 pregnant women were recruited in late second trimester and underwent metabolic characterization, including an oral glucose tolerance test on which 214 were diagnosed with GDM. Metabolic characterization included assessment of glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity/resistance (Matsuda index, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance), pancreatic β-cell function, lipids (LDL [low-density lipoprotein] cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, apoB [apolipoprotein B], and apoA1), CRP (C-reactive protein), and adiponectin. Serum apoA1 was strongly correlated with HDL (r=0.79, P

CONCLUSIONS: Low levels of ApoA-I/IgG ICs are associated with an increased risk of adverse events in patients with CAD, raising their potential to be used as a biomarker to predict CVD progression. PMID: 31315438 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion: Our findings describe the most reported risk factors for preventability of oral anticoagulant-induced bleedings. These factors may be useful for targeting interventions to improve pharmacovigilance activities in our regional territory and to reduce the burden of medication errors and inappropriate prescription. Introduction Oral anticoagulant therapy is widely used for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation, or for the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (Raj et al., 1994; Monaco et al., 2017). Oral anticoagulants can be di...

Type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) affects an estimate of 450 million individuals. Hence, there remains an urgent need to explore the use of novel biomarkers with the aim of preventing and managing cardiovascular risk among these individuals. A hallmark of this condition is lipid and glucose dyshomeostasis accompanied by a prothrombotic phenotype; these pose as eminent links between T2DM and cardiovascular disease. Diabetic dyslipidemia affects not only plasma lipid profiles but extends further into the haematological system, modulating the cholesterol concentration of erythrocyte membranes.

This study examined the association between statin and/or aspirin use and venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk in endometrial cancer. METHODS: This is a multi-center retrospective study examining 2527 women with endometrial cancer between 2000 and 2015. Statin and aspirin use at diagnosis was correlated to VTE risk during follow-up on multivariable analysis. RESULTS: There were 132 VTE events with a 5-year cumulative incidence rate of 6.1%. There were 392 (15.5%) statin users and 219 (8.7%) aspirin users, respectively. On multivariable analysis, statin use was associated with an approximately 60% decreased risk of V...
