The role of advanced cardiac imaging in occupational cardiologyThe role of advanced cardiac imaging in individuals undertaking high-hazard occupations

New techniques in cardiac imaging, particularly in cardiac computed tomography (CCT) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) have become increasingly accessible as their indications have broadened over the last 10 –15 years. Their ability to assess cardiac structure and function, coronary anatomy, and myocardial tissue characterization, means that they can greatly assist in the occupational cardiology assessment of those involved in high-risk activities. For those engaged in high-hazard occupations, estab lishing a definitive diagnosis or excluding significant pathology, with the highest degree of certainty, is vital in order to avoid unnecessary restrictions on working, whilst keeping individuals, wider workforce, general public, and sometimes the environment safe and secure.
