Publication date: Available online 19 October 2019Source: Journal of Membrane ScienceAuthor(s): Wei Zhang, Yubing Lu, Jun Liu, Xipeng Li, Baoan Li, Shichang WangAbstractSuperhydrophobic and oleophobic membrane applied in membrane distillation was fabricated by constructing a re-entrant composite structure via immobilizing silica nanoparticles (NPs) on the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane. The silica coated membrane with the assistance of polydopamine (PDA) was then fluorosilanized by means of a silane coupling agent 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane. A series of characterizations were implemented to investig...

by Michael Fralick, Sebastian Schneeweiss, Christopher J. D. Wallis, Emily H. Jung, Aaron S. Kesselheim BackgroundDesmopressin was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1978 for use in diabetes insipidus and bleeding disorders, but it is also prescribed off-label for patients with nocturia. Quantifying the potential risks facing adult patients taking desmopressin has taken on added importance because a new intranasal formulation of desmopressin was approved by the FDA in 2017. Like the old formulation, the main active ingredient is desmopressin acetate, but the new formulation also contains an excipient des...

Publication date: Available online 16 October 2019Source: Journal of Molecular StructureAuthor(s): Soner Top, Hüseyin Vapur, Mahmut Altiner, Dogan Kaya, Ahmet EkicibilAbstractThe present paper aims to utilize the fly ash wastes with lightweight aggregates for geopolymer concrete production process in which sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium metasilicate (Na2SiO3) were used as alkali activators, respectively. The designed experiments were examined by the Yates Analyses and so the productions of geopolymer concrete were investigated depending on curing temperature, solid/liquid rate and concentration of alkali activator...

This study proposes to investigate the relationship between the structure and the wetting properties of a zirconium modified silicate hybrid sol-gel coating. The structures of the coatings were altered by varying the content of zirconium, and the curing process, while keeping the sol-gel preparation conditions identical. The structure of the materials was characterized by FTIR, 29Si NMR and SEM. The thermal properties and the wettability are identified by DSC and contact angle measurements, respectively.By corroborating the structural and wettability analyses, it is shown that the transition metal minimizes the thermally-a...

AbstractPurposeTo evaluate the efficacy and safety of desmopressin treatment in women with nocturia.MethodsThe PubMed, EMBASE, ISI web of knowledge, and the Cochrane Controlled Trial Register of Controlled Trials were searched from their inception date till April, 2019. The meta-analysis was performed by Revman 5.3. This review also stratified each outcome by dose (  25 μg) to explore the differences in the dose response for orally disintegrating tablet (ODT).ResultsSeven publications with seven trials were included in this review. The methodological quality of these trials was fair, and four studies had low...

CONCLUSION: Parent-reported sleep problems underestimate the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire results. This is not necessarily indicative of more disturbed sleep and might reflect differences in sleep behavior, childcare practice, and cognitions and attitudes towards the concept of 'normal' sleep. In this study, we numerically determined the intra-band transition lifetime of carriers as well as, the linear, nonlinear, and total absorption coefficients fro lens-shaped core/shell quantum dot structures. Our computations considered the combined effects of the wetting layer, pressure, applied transverse electric field, temperature, and core/shell sizes. By using suitable choices for these parameters, we found that a red or blue shift in the energy of the absorption spectrum could be achieved. In addition, the largest absorption coefficient was obtained when an intense transverse electric field was applied along the diag...

Publication date: 25 December 2019Source: Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, Volume 80Author(s): Bin Lyu, Huihui Liu, Pengfei Li, Dangge Gao, Jianzhong MaAbstractThe polymeric surfactants were synthesized using allyl glycidyl ether, acrylamide, butyl acrylate and sodium allylsulfonate by radical polymerization and applied as corrosion inhibitor of carbon steel via weight loss method. The structure of polymeric surfactants was confirmed by FT-IR and NMR. The surface activity of polymeric surfactants was characterized by surface tension and wetting power. The anticorrosion mechanism of polymeric surfactants was...
