Mental disorders in systemic lupus erythematosus: a cohort study

AbstractCurrently, the evaluation of mental disorders in patients with Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is essential in the management of the illness because of their impact in morbimortality. The main purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of mental disorders in a group of patients with SLE in a tertiary referral hospital in Quito-Ecuador. The main diffuse central nervous system psychiatric syndromes in SLE (psychosis, anxiety and mood disorders) and cognitive dysfunction were evaluated with the MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview and the Montreal scale, respectively. This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study which included patients 15  years and older diagnosed with SLE in a tertiary referral hospital in Quito, Ecuador. 85 patients diagnosed with SLE attending the internal medicine outpatient clinic during October 2017–May 2018 were included. A bivariate analysis of possible associations between these mental disorders with cor ticosteroid use, antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), and quality of life was also studied. Eighty-five patients, with an average age of 34.12 ± 11.5 years were included, of which 94% were females. 71% of participants (60 patients) had at least one mental disorder evaluated in this study. DISCUSSION: On the basis of the findings, this study showed evidence that increase in NPS burden (reflected by increase in NPI) over time predicts conversion to AD, whereas stability of symptoms (reflected by stable NPI score) favors nonconversion. CONCLUSIONS: In elderly individuals with T1DM, we found associations between dLOC and cognition overall and in men but not women. Conclusion: The presentation of PPCRA has been sporadic in the majority of cases. Inflammatory and hereditary origins have been anecdotally cited. Our young patient showed concurrent presentation of inflammatory and hereditary origin of PPCRA. We suggest that a careful investigation of systemic inflammation should be done in children with suggestive extraocular symptoms in the setting of PPCRA. CONCLUSIONS: Although no injury-history differences were found among the sport-specialization groups, a higher proportion of club sport athletes than nonclub sport athletes reported a history of injury. Club sports are generally seen as more competitive, and the higher number of injuries seen in this setting could be related to a higher level of play among club sport athletes. We report a longitudinal behavioral study in a methylazoxymethanol acetate (MAM) rat model of schizophrenia at three different age periods: prepuberty, late-puberty and early-adulthood.
