Interaction between the heart and the brain in transient global amnesia

We examined the incidence of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTNI) level elevation, electrocardiogram (ECG) findings, and data on clinical management.ResultsAmong the TGA patients, 17 (8.4%) exhibited elevated levels of hs-cTNI. Although none of the patients had ST elevation, 12 (6.7%) showed QTc prolongation and 11 (6.1%) an inverted T wave on ECG. No typical clinical symptoms suggestive of myocardial infarction were present in any of the cases, however, 17 (8.4%) patients complained of mild somatic symptoms. Patients with hs-cTNI level elevation had a significantly greater likelihood of a history of coronary heart disease (p = 0.03) and a significantly shorter TGA duration at presentation (p

This study investigates the use of photoplethysmography (PPG) as a comfortable alternative to electrocardiography (ECG) for heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. Although HRV is typically analyzed from an ECG trace, PPG poses a likely alternative, as arterial pulsations and peripheral tissue perfusion (as measured by PPG) are coupled with cardiac electrical activity (as measured by ECG). PPG may be more desirable in some clinical circumstances, as a fingertip optical sensor is more comfortable for patients than ECG electrodes, and can reduce waste by not needing to be disposed after each use. Objective. The aim of this st...

Publication date: 1 January 2020Source: Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, Volume 185Author(s): Wan Bei, Li Jing, Nie ChenAbstractWogonin, one of the main active ingredients of Scutellaria radix, is a kind of flavonoid compound. In the present study, we report that wogonin nanoparticles (Wog np) protect Isoproterenol (ISO) induced Myocardial Infarction (MI) rats. Nanoparticles of sizes less than 200 nm with spherical shape were prepared using Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) respectively as polymer and stabilizer. Male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups. Group 1 as a control group a...

CONCLUSION: Peripherally inserted central catheter moves toward the heart when the arm position changes from abduction to adduction. Peripherally inserted central catheter tip placement at the peak P wave with patient's arm in adduction is accurate and can prevent the catheter from advancing too low. R wave can function as a reference for observing P wave changes during peripherally inserted central catheter placement. PMID: 31808719 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Schulte C, Zeller T Abstract Cardiovascular (CV) risk assessment is based on the utilization of risk scores, enabling clinicians to estimate an individual's risk to develop CV pathologies and events. Such risk scores comprise classic CV risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and blood cholesterol levels. Recently, other CV biomarkers such as cardiac troponins have been suggested and evaluated as alternative biomarkers not only in the acute diagnostic setting of myocardial infarction, but also as markers for risk stratification in the general population. In this review, we summarize the curre...

ConclusionsA positive effect of the Mediterranean diet, and fruit and vegetable intake was observed on hsCRP and the occurrence of effective myocardial reperfusion. These findings confirm the favorable impact of Mediterranean diet adherence not only in primary but also in secondary prevention.

(Natural News) Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the US, accounting for 840, 768 deaths in 2016 alone. These statistics call for an increased awareness in improving and supporting cardiovascular health. While you cannot really change some risk factors of cardiovascular health – like sex, age or family history –...

Authors: Lionetti V, Barile L Abstract Over the last 20 years increasing number of patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy underwent different types of elective non-cardiac and cardiac surgery. Despite surgery is safer today than in the past, rate of perioperative major adverse cardiovascular events is still attracting significant attention from both clinicians and researchers. The perioperative myocardial infarction (PMI), a permanent damage of the heart, is a major cause of short and long term morbidity and mortality in current surgical populations. Although it is primarily the result of local myocardial is...
