Association between fat-soluble nutrient status and auditory and visual related potentials in newly diagnosed non-screened infants with cystic fibrosis: A case-control study
Cystic fibrosis (CF), the most prevalent inherited disease in Caucasian populations, is caused by mutations of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), The Canadian province of Quebec has among the highest prevalence rates of CF in the world, with an average of one in 2,500 newborns [1]. Typically known as a chronic lung disease, CF also affects the pancreas and the gastrointestinal tract early in the course of the disease, leading to the development of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, maldigestion and malabsorption, especially of fat-soluble nutrients [2].
