Comment on: Potential mechanisms of sleeve gastrectomy for reducing body weight and improving metabolism in patients with obesity

The review article by Huang R, et al. (1) offers a summary of the metabolic effects of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) that are associated with weight loss. This is in addition to the already well-established restrictive nature of LSG procedure that results in decreased oral intake. The manuscript sheds light on factors such as variation of gut microbiota, gastrointestinal motility alteration and hormonal changes as plausible reasons for losing excess body weight after LSG.
