Aquablation of the prostate: a review and update.

CONCLUSIONS: Aquablation is a safe and effective option for treating LUTS secondary to BPH. Aquablation is a new surgical option that shows very promising short term results, in particular, due to its short resection time regardless of gland size and low rate of sexual side effects. CONCLUSIONS: According to our review no technique may be considered better than the other when treating large adenomas. Studies are still lacking to prove long term efficacy and future studies should clarify the role of prostatic artery embolization and minimally invasive simple prostatectomy in the management of prostates larger than 80 ml. Experimental model of sulpiride-provoked benign prostatic hyperplasia was employed to comparatively assess the effect of phenolic antioxidants (dihydroquercetin,p-thyrozol, dibornol, and prostagenin) on prostate morphology. All examined agents decreased the degree of hyperplasia in acinar epithelium; the greatest efficacy was demonstrated by prostagenin. Moreover, dihydroquercetin andp-thyrozol increased the cross-section area of acinar lumina and prostate volume, which is inadmissible in this pathology. These results suggest that the use of phenolic antioxidants in the therapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia should be strictly controlled.

CONCLUSIONS: Although, the achieved results of this investigation demonstrated that the two examined genetic variants do not seem to be suitable markers for early diagnosis of prostate cancer in this pilot study; however increased risk for the disease is shown in GA heterozygotes and smokers which is indicative of some epigenetic factors influence on prostate cancer etiology.
