Pulmonary embolism: an often forgotten differential diagnosis for abdominal pain

Learning point for cliniciansPulmonary embolism (PE) accounts for a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. A missed diagnosis is a recipe for catastrophe. Abdominal pain is an unusual presentation for this condition and can be the only clinical symptom as in the case discussed. It is imperative to maintain a systemic approach as physicians and to consider this potentially fatal diagnosis in cases with unexplained abdominal pain.
