Dexmedetomidine versus Propofol and Fentanyl for Deep Sedation/General Anesthesia during Third Molar Surgery

Propofol is routinely used by oral and maxillofacial surgeons for outpatient procedures with the known complication of respiratory depression. The purpose of this study is to find a safe alternative for outpatient procedures requiring anesthesia, such as third molar removal, by comparing the use of 2 anesthetic medication combinations: midazolam/fentanyl/propofol (group P) versus midazolam/dexmedetomidine (group D).
