Study Objectives:The association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and hypertension in prior studies has been determined using a definition of hypopnea requiring a 4% O2 desaturation. However, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) recommends using a 3% O2 desaturation or an arousal. This analysis assesses the relationship between OSA and hypertension utilizing the AASM recommended definition and the 2018 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association hypertension guidelines. Methods:Data from 6113 participants from the Sleep Heart Health Study were analyzed. The AASM recommended apnea-hypopnea index (...

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of chronic blockade of ET-1 receptor with MAC on the alteration of renal function observed in hypertensive and hyperglycemic animals. Genetically hypertensive rats were divided into control hypertensive (HT-CTL) group, hypertensive and hyperglycemic (HT+DIAB) group, and hypertensive and hyperglycemic group that received 25 mg/kg macitentan (HT-DIAB+MAC25) via gavage for 60 days. Kidney function and parameters associated with oxidative and nitrosative stress were evaluated. Immunohistochemistry for neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), ET-1, and catalase in the renal cort...

ConclusionsIn healthy nulligravid women there is evidence that markers of decreased left ventricular relaxation are associated with increased peripheral vascular stiffness as is a family history of myocardial infarction or hypertension. These findings raise the possibility that the diastolic dysfunction and arterial stiffness observed in the setting of preeclampsia are driven by underlying properties present prior to pregnancy and contribute to lifetime cardiovascular risk.

Conclusion: In Thai population, our study showed no evidence of association between RAAS-related genes and hypertension. While our study is the first and largest study to investigate the role of RAAS-related genes in hypertension in Thai population, restricted statistical power due to limited sample size is a limitation. MizubutiAbstractProphylactic administration of a vasopressor to mitigate the hypotensive effect of propofol (and/or other co-induction agents) during sedation/anesthesia immediately prior to tracheal intubation in frail patients in the intensive care unit and emergency and operating rooms appears to be not an uncommon practice. We submit that this practice is unnecessary and potentially harmful. Despite restoring the blood pressure, phenylephrine, for instance, may have an additive or synergistic effec...
