TARGETING TARGETED TREATMENT FOR IMMUNE AND NON-IMMUNE KIDNEY DISEASES. Trans Am Clin Climatol Assoc. 2019;130:88-99 Authors: Tsokos GC, Tsokos MG Abstract We have found that calcium calmodulin kinase IV is increased in T cells, podocytes, and mesangial cells from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, as well as in lupus-prone mice, podocytes of patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, and in mice injected with doxorubicin. We showed that this accounts for aberrant T cell function and glomerular damage. Using nanoparticles (nlg) loaded with a small drug inhibitor of calcium calmodulin ki...

In this study we analyzed sera from 191 patients with SLE, 119 patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS), 48 patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc), and 100 healthy donors (HD) for autoantibodies to eight different KIRs. Anti-KIR autoantibodies were identified in sera from 23.0% of patients with SLE, 10.9% of patients with pSS, 12.5% of patients with SSc, and 3.0% of HD. IgG from anti-KIR-positive SLE patients reduced the degranulation and cytotoxicity of NK cells toward K562 tumor cells. The presence of anti-KIR-autoantibodies reacting with>3 KIRs was associated with an increased disease activity (p

CONCLUSIONS: Fetal complications were frequent in patients with LN. Umbilical arterial Doppler ultrasonography was a useful measure to predict late IUGR, fetal distress, and the composite APOs. PMID: 31495267 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Lupus nephritis (LN) is an inflammation of the kidneys and is a major cause of mortality in systemic lupus erythaematosus (SLE) patients. In addition, Th17/Treg balance is one of the most important factors tha...

Abstract Inflammation plays a key role in the pathogenesis of lupus nephritis (LN) and inflammatory cytokines within the glomeruli are critical in this process. However, little information is available for the identities of the cell types that are primarily responsible for the production and function of the various cytokines. We have devised a novel method to visualize cytokine signals in the kidney by confocal microscopy and found that cytokine production within the glomerulus is cell type-specific and under translational control. In the lupus-prone NZM2328 mice with chronic glomerulonephritis, IL-6, IL-1β, ...

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is an autoimmune disease characterized by systemic vasculitis and pauci-immune-type crescentic glomerulonephritis (CrGN) with ANCA production. Human AAV causes death due to lun...

Authors: Chang SH, Kim TJ, Kim Y, Han SS, Lee SK, Sim JH, Kim YJ, Lee SJ, Rhyu IJ, Nam KH, Mohan C, Kim HR Abstract FoxP3 reporter mice expressing green fluorescence protein (GFP) have been used as a very convenient tool to investigate the impact of regulatory T (Treg) cells on pathogenesis in autoimmune diseases. Here, we found that GFP-FoxP3+ knock-in (KI) mice showed alterations in the production of anti-nuclear autoantibodies (ANAs) and nephritis with different extent, depending on the presence or absence of lupus susceptibility gene locus 1 (Sle1) and KI method: contrasting with B6.Sle1.fGFP-FoxP3 mice, expres...
