AbstractRenal imaging is an essential investigative tool and preliminary task for determining a suitable sanative option for the treatment of kidney cancer. In recent decades, with the increasing usage of abdominal imaging, there is an upsurge in the number of adrenal incidentalomas. Among these accidentally revealed lesions, most of them are complex that warrant immediate aggressive treatment planning due to their malignant potential. The guidelines given by the American Urological Association (AUA), American College of Radiology (ACR), and European Association of Urology (EAU) vary concerning the use of ideal preliminary...

Hong Cho Treatment-related adverse events (AEs) can obfuscate the maintenance of a conventional schedule of sunitinib in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Accordingly, alternative schedules seeking to improve the safety profile of sunitinib have been tested. Recently, two meta-analyses similarly described improved safety profiles favoring a two weeks on and one week off (2/1) schedule, but with conflicting results for survival outcomes. Therefore, we conducted an updated systematic review and meta-analysis, including all recently published studies and using complementary statistical methods. Endpoint...

Authors: Brenner DR, Ruan Y, Shaw E, O'Sullivan D, Poirier AE, Heer E, Villeneuve PJ, Walter SD, Friedenreich CM, Smith L, De P Abstract BACKGROUND: Although cancer incidence over time is well documented in Canada, trends by birth cohort and age group are less well known. We analyzed age- and sex-standardized incidence trends in Canada for 16 major cancer sites and all cancers combined. METHODS: We obtained nationally representative population-based cancer incidence data in Canada between 1971 and 2015 from the National Cancer Incidence Reporting System (1969-1992) and the Canadian Cancer Registry (1992-2015). ...

In conclusion, we found that microRNAs upregulated in renal cancer contribute to disturbed expression of key genes involved in the regulation of RCC metabolome. miR-146a-5p and miR-155-5p emerge as a key “metabomiRs” that target genes of crucial metabolic pathways (PPP (the pentose phosphate pathway), TCA cycle, and arginine metabolism).

Nivolumab is a fully human, immunoglobulin G4 (kappa) isotype monoclonal antibody that binds programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) on activated immune cells and disrupts the engagement of the receptor with its ligands programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1: B7-H1/CD274 and PD-L2: B7-DC/CD273), thereby abrogating inhibitory signals and augmenting the antitumor response of the host [1]. In previous clinical trials, nivolumab has shown activity in several tumor types, including melanoma, renal cell carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), hodgkin lymphoma, and malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Renal cyst shrinkage is a rare finding. Since the collapsed cystic walls may mimic soft tissue components, this scenario has to be taken into account in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant renal cysts. In this study, we report a novel 3D printed microfluidic device functionalized with anti-EpCAM (epithelial cell adhesion molecule) antibodies to isolate CTCs from human blood samples. A 3D printing technology was utilized with specially designed interior structures to fabricate a microfluidic device with high surface area and fluid flow manipulation, increasing the capture efficiency of tumor cells. These devices with the optimal flow rate (1 mL/h) and channel length (2 cm) were demonstrated to test three kinds of EpCAM positive cancer cell lines (MCF-7 breast cancer, SW480 colon cancer, and PC3 prostate cancer), and o...
