Considerations concerning the perioperative use of metamizole.

CONCLUSION: The perioperative use of metamizole is possible after a thorough evaluation of the indications as it provides good analgesia with a generally favorable side effect profile and is administered intravenously. The risk of agranulocytosis is small but needs to be mentioned during patient informed consent in order to optimize early recognition. Intraoperative administration aims at reducing the expected severe postoperative pain. A documentation and justification for the evaluation of the indications are recommended. ConclusionsEndoscopic microwave ablation with patients under local anesthesia is a novel, safe, effective, rapid, well-tolerated, outpatient treatment for adults with epistaxis of isolated mucosal bulge lesions, especially those for whom general anesthesia might be risky, those with electrical implants, and those exhibiting contraindications for arterial embolization.ResumoIntroduçãoEpistaxe recorrente é uma condição clínica comum nos ambulatórios de rinologia. ConclusionHysteroscopy as a safe and relatively low pain procedure. Local anesthetic in the form of a paracervical block has been used historically to decrease pain during the procedure. Paracervical block does not significantly decrease pain during procedure, even in menopausal women who were found to have higher pain scales on average. Therefore, future studies should further investigate strategies to decrease pain during office hysteroscopy especially for postmenopausal women.

AbstractThe risk of bleeding complications during regional anesthesia procedures is a significant patient safety consideration. Nevertheless, existing literature provides limited guidance on the stratification of bleeding risk for peripheral nerve and newly described interfascial plane blocks. Our objective was to produce an evidence-based consensus advisory that classifies bleeding risks in patients undergoing regional peripheral nerve and interfascial plane block procedures. This advisory is intended to facilitate clinical decision-making in conjunction with national or local guidelines and to guide consideration for app...

Abstract Objectives: In Slovenia, first-trimester abortion is performed at the woman's request, either surgically under general anaesthesia or medically with mifepristone and misoprostol, in a public hospital. Our study aimed to evaluate pre-abortion counselling and to reveal differences in acceptability and satisfaction with the two abortion methods. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out at Ljubljana University Medical Centre between January and June 2015. Women requesting termination of a pregnancy up to 10 weeks' gestation voluntarily completed an anonymous questionnaire after the procedure and ...

r M Abstract OBJECTIVE: Fast track concepts are used to reduce the risk of perioperative and postoperative complications after total knee arthroplasty. INDICATIONS: The described concepts are used for patients with indications for the implantation of a total knee prosthesis. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindications for fast track concepts are aged patients, dementia, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade IV and implantation of large revision or tumor prostheses. Contraindications for tranexamic acid are bleeding in the urinary tract, caution in cases of known epilepsy, individual risk assessment ...

This study evaluated the effect of bilateral endoscopic sphenopalatine ganglion block (SPGB) for management of postoperative pain in patients undergoing septoplasty.MethodsSixty septoplasty patients (51.7% male, 48.3% female, aged 18 to 45 years) were randomly assigned to general anesthesia (GA) alone (control) (n = 30) or GA plus endoscopic SPGB (n = 30). Demographic data, duration of surgery, blood loss, postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores (upon arrival at the postanesthesia care unit [PACU] and 2, 6, 12, and 24 hours after surgery), overall analgesic usage (end of 24 and 168 hours after surgery), overa...
