The accuracy of three-dimensional rapid prototyped surgical template guided anterior segmental osteotomy.

The accuracy of three-dimensional rapid prototyped surgical template guided anterior segmental osteotomy. Med Oral Patol Oral Cir Bucal. 2019 Aug 19;: Authors: Qu M, Zhu S, Hu Z, Li Y, Abotaleb B, Bi R, Jiang N Abstract BACKGROUND: Surgical guiding templates provided a reliable way to transfer the simulation to the actual operation. However, there was no template designed for anterior segmental osteotomy so far. The study aimed to introduce and evaluate a set of 3D rapid prototyping surgical templates used in anterior segmental osteotomy. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From August 2015 to August 2017, 17 patients with bimaxillary protrusions were recruited and occlusal-based multi-sectional templates were applied in the surgeries. The cephalometric analysis and 3D superimposition were performed to evaluate the differences between the simulations and actual post-operative outcomes. The patients were followed-up for 12 months to evaluate the incidence rate of complications and relapse. RESULTS: Bimaxillary protrusion was corrected in all patients with no complication. In radiographic evaluations, there was no statistically significant difference between the actual operations and the computer-aided 3D simulations (p>0.05, the mean linear and angular differences were less than 1.32mm and 1.72° consequently, and 3D superimposition difference was less than 1.4mm). The Pearson intraclass correlation coefficient reliabilities were high (0.897), and the corr...

Publication date: Available online 20 September 2019Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Medicine, and PathologyAuthor(s): Wataru Kakuguchi, Yoichi Ohiro, Seitaro Nakazawa, Ryo Naito, Yasuhito Moritani, Yoshiyuki Nakamichi, Hiromasa Horimukai, Tetsuya Kitamura, Kanchu TeiAbstractAmeloblastomas have a high post-surgical recurrence rate. They often recur after simple conservative surgeries, such as enucleation. The dredging method was thus developed as an alternative, conservative treatment of ameloblastoma. This method accelerates new bone formation and enables surgeons to remove all tumors, leading to lower r...

Authors: Tsai YC, Lee HL, Kuo CC, Chen CY, Hsieh KL, Wu MH, Wen YC, Yu HW, Hsu FC, Tsai JT, Chiou JF Abstract Background: Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS) is an alternative local therapy for patients with painful bone metastasis. However, little is known about the prognostic and predictive factors of MRgFUS in treating bone metastasis. Materials and methods: This retrospective study analyzed the performance status, treated site, pretreatment pain score, pretreatment tumor volume and lesion coverage volume factor (CVF) of 31 patients who underwent MRgFUS. A numerical rating scale for pai...

CONCLUSION: DAS28 score and disease activity are strong indicators of TMJ affection in RA patients when compared to RF and ACCP. ACCP is a better indicator of changes in condylar measurements than TMJ osteoarthritic changes. While RF is the least efficient indicator of TMJ involvement in RA patients. CONCLUSIONS: The results emphasize the need for a cautious approach to using dental CBCT. Imaging only when the clinical indications are clear, accompanied with the appropriate radiographic techniques and the optimum imaging protocol, will help reduce radiation dose to patients. This study seeks to evaluate the use of CR in children with bronchiolitis due to a lower respiratory tract infection (RSV-RTI) with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and the influence of CR on patient treatment during the 2010-2017 seasons. There were 581 children included into the study: 459 with bronchiolitis (390 RSV-RTI and 69 non-RSV), 65 with RSV pneumonia and 57 with RSV bronchitis. We found that CR was performed in 28.6% (166/581) patients. CR was much more frequent in patients with RSV than non-RSV infections (61% vs. 31%). CR prognostic sensitivity and specificity in guiding antibiotic treatment was low, 78% and ...

Authors: Waninger JJ, Green M, Cheze Le Rest C, Rosen B, El Naqa I Abstract In radiomics, quantitative features that describe phenotypic tumor characteristics are derived from radiographic images. Because radiomics generates information from routine medical images, it is a powerful way to non-invasively examine the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of disease, and thus has potential to significantly impact clinical trial design, execution, and ultimately patient care. The aim of this review article is to discuss how radiomics may address some of the current challenges in clinical randomized control trials, and the...

CONCLUSIONS: Pelvic fracture MRI should be performed primarily in elderly female patients without adequate trauma. In patients with adequate trauma, MRI is of low value, especially as MRI diagnostics are performed with delay, resulting in later surgery. PMID: 31533165 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
