Authors: Wei L, Osman S, Hatt M, El Naqa I Abstract Due to the recent developments of both hardware and software technologies, multimodality medical imaging techniques have been increasingly applied in clinical practice and research studies. Previously, the application of multimodality imaging in oncology has been mainly related to combining anatomical and functional imaging to improve diagnostic specificity and/or target definition, such as positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/CT. More recently, the fusion of various images, such as multi-...

Authors: Bogowicz M, Vuong D, Huellner MW, Pavic M, Andratschke N, Gabrys HS, Guckenberger M, Tanadini-Lang S Abstract Today, rapid technical and clinical developments result in an increasing number of treatment options for oncological diseases. Thus, decision support systems are needed to offer the right treatment to the right patient. Imaging biomarkers hold great promise in patient-individual treatment guidance. Routinely performed for diagnosis and staging, imaging datasets are excepted to hold more information than used in the clinical practice. Radiomics describes the extraction of a large number of meaningfu...

Publication date: Available online 13 September 2019Source: International Journal of PharmaceuticsAuthor(s): Rasmus Blaaholm Nielsen, Ariane Kahnt, Lieve Dillen, Koen Wuyts, Jan Snoeys, Ulla Gro Nielsen, René Holm, Carsten Uhd NielsenAbstractIn the small intestine, P-glycoprotein (P-gp) may limit the permeability of its substrates, which lead to reduced oral absorption. To circumvent the effect of P-gp, a nanocomposite material termed montmorillonite-surfactant hybrid particles was developed. The particles consisted of montmorillonite, the P-gp-inhibiting, nonionic surfactant, polysorbate 20, and the P-gp substrate,...

CONCLUSIONS: Pelvic fracture MRI should be performed primarily in elderly female patients without adequate trauma. In patients with adequate trauma, MRI is of low value, especially as MRI diagnostics are performed with delay, resulting in later surgery. PMID: 31533165 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Af Björkesten CG, Jussila A, Kemppainen H, Hallinen T, Soini E, Mankinen P, Valgarðsson S, Veckman V, Nissinen R, Naessens D, Molander P Abstract Background and Aims: A retrospective non-interventional, multi-centre patient chart review study was conducted to investigate the association of faecal calprotectin (FC) 1 year (±2 months) after biological therapy initiation with composite event-free survival (CEFS) consisting of surgical procedures, corticosteroid initiation, treatment failure or dose increase in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). In addition, the correlations of F...

Conclusions: Among IBS patients, the presence of comorbid Generalized Anxiety Disorder and/or Major Depressive Disorder is associated with lower socioeconomic status and lower average per capita income. These findings speak to a biopsychosocial model of illness, which should be considered by clinicians in the care of IBS patients. PMID: 31530048 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

In this study, we aim to assess plasma and serum calprotectin measurements as biomarkers of disease activity in paediatric and adult ulcerative colitis. Methods: Paediatric (5-18 years) and adult (>18 years) patients scheduled for colonoscopy due to suspected or confirmed ulcerative colitis were included prospectively. Stool and blood samples were collected at time of colonoscopy and patient symptom scores were recorded. At colonoscopy the Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity was recorded. Histology was graded according to the Geboes score. Results: 84 patients where included; 30 paediatric and ...
